New to this so would really appreciate any help with priceline. Been through the hotel lists and read some posts. It's our first visit to New York 22-April-2014 for 3 nights for my 40th bday/15th wedding anniversary before we head to Vegas. Our budget $850 inc taxes and so far all bids for Lower East Side/Empire/Midtown East/SoHo been rejected from $180 to $230 for 4*. Am I bidding too early? Or being unrealistic? or both?

While I generally suggest preparation (researching rates, planning initial bids) even for those seeking to book early, this is definitely a bit early and I'd suggest not going too far too quickly - I wouldn't bid any higher at this point in time. Can you confirm all of the zone/s that would be acceptable?

I bid from $180-$235 and got $235 per night with $154 taxes which was only $9 over my total budget. I think I probably bid too early. But thanks for input Aaron... I had gone $5 up before I read your post to wait. I'm happy with price though as it is coming up as $360 (total) more on cheapest ebookers. And I got Empire area which was my ideal. Some little gripes I've read on Trip Advisor on size of room etc are from people paying $350 a night. Really excited now it's booked.
