crimedog74 Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 I need a room for 4 nights next week. Want to be in either West Hollywood or Santa Monica. Can you give me some advice on realistically how low I can go. Would love to be south of $140/night. Thanks
crimedog74 Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 *Update*I've read through the bidding strategies thread and decided to go for it. I tried to upgrade to a 4* and here is my progress so far:Bid #1 - BH/WH 4* $130 (Rejected)Bid #2 - added Culver City, increased bid to $135 (Rejected)Bid #3 - added Inglewood, increased bid to $140 (Rejected)Bid #4 - added Lawndale, increased bid to $145 (Rejected)Bid #5 - added USC, increased bid to $150 (Rejected)I will now try to reduce to 3.5* and re-evaluate the bidding strategy. Any tips would be appreciated.
thereuare Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! To give you some perspective, i think you would need to bid ~$165-$185 to be success for a 4* hotel for these dates. If you want to lower to 3.5* are you using the same $150 maximum bid price? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. crimedog74 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Report Posted June 19, 2013 Thanks for getting back to me. I meant to update this thread earlier. I did drop down to 3.5* and re-started at $125. I repeated the same 5 bids above, ending at $145. All were rejected.
thereuare Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 What about Santa Monica... are you not including that in your bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. crimedog74 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Report Posted June 19, 2013 Yes. Santa Monica was included in both rounds of bidding. Sorry for not pointing that out. I would do WH/BH on it's own, then add SM/MDR. Then I would add the rest. How high should I expect to bid to get something 3.5* or above for SM/MDR or WH/BH?
thereuare Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 My guess is that a 3.5* may actually cost about the same or more than a 4*, so given your bid history already and if you're not willing to change zones, i would:Bid 3.5* up to $165, if rejectedBid 4* up to $185(or if you'd prefer the higher rated hotel for money money simply bid 4* first)However, you can bid more strategically then you have been, so if you let us know your thoughts on how you'd like to proceed we will suggest a strategy to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. crimedog74 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Report Posted June 20, 2013 I'm going to bid for the 3.5* up to $165 as you've suggested. If there is a better strategy of bidding than $5 increments with added locations, then I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks
thereuare Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 When bidding 3.5* in the Los Angeles region you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Beverly Hills-West Hollywood...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Santa Monica...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Beverly Hills-West Hollywood and Santa Monica...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. crimedog74 Posted June 23, 2013 Author Report Posted June 23, 2013 Thank you for the very detailed plan. I tried each of the bids and was denied each time. I think I am just going to have to settle for a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Which PRICELINE EXPRESS deal would you be looking at purchasing and at what price... the least expensive 3.5* or higher i'm seeing for your dates is $199/nite.Let us know whatever you decide to do for this stay and if you do go for a PRICELINE EXPRESS property please not the amenities shown before your purchases and include them in your post.Thanks.
