benoit Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Hello,This is my first post. I am really amazed at the work you guys are doing on this forum... :o Anyway, I would like to book an hotel from my parents who will be in NY from Thursday Oct. 27th to Monday Oct. 31st.The area does not really matter as long as it's close to the main touristic areas and/or close to the subway (maybe MTE and MTW and UM/CPS).The budget is quite low ($150) but I would like to find them a 3 stars (or 4 stars, but from what I read so far on the forum, the budget is way too low for a 4 stars :) ) Also, I saw what I guessed was the 4 points Sheraton for $200 on hotwire. This might be our last option if I don't find anything cheaper.Splitting the bid is actually okay as my parents will be joined by their friends on the 28 et 29 (sorry, it's a bit complicated!).Basically here is the resa I would need to make:- 1 room for 27/10- 2 rooms for 28 et 29/10- 1 room for 30/10I would like to start with a target of 150, and in 3 days I will try with a 180-190 target. What do you think?Any advices before I start bidding? Thanks! :)
thereuare Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! At your maximum bid of $190...I don't think you have much of a chance for the first nite of your stay, only a small chance for the middle dates, and your last nite should be easy.To keep things uniform, this is what i would try first for each of your sets of dates (you have two re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in NYC, if you're not familiar with re-bidding please read PRICELINE RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding):Select 4* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. benoit Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 Thanks for your help.I used your bidding strategy and as you expected, I did get a room for sunday night ($120 - Hilton NY) :o But... no rooms for thurday, friday, saturday. :)I even bidded up to $160 on MTW, MTE, UM/CPS without much success.I cannot really go higher for these nights, so three possibilities:- I restart with 4 stars in other areas of NY (I don't know NY much so I would appreciate some help here :))- I look for 3 stars hotels in the previous areas (MTW, MTE and UM/CPS)- I look for cheaper hotels in New Jersey (that's also a possibility but I have NO idea which city is the closet to NY - BY CAR)What do you think?I am very happy with my first bid (made through savingsbarn.com, indeed) :) Hopefully I'll find a good solution for the other nights!Cheers,Ben
