blorsbac Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 This is my first time using this site or the Hotwire site. I really like trying to figure out what we might be getting!Anyway, I'm looking for a hotel in Chicago from 7/12 - 7/14. I'm clicking on the map in the area that says Magnificent Mile / River North area, but when the options come up, the one I'm looking at says Chicago Loop - Theater District area hotel, so I guess that's what it is? Not really sure.I'm getting $208/night with the following amenities:Free Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Free Internet <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Pet friendly Pet friendly - terms apply Indoor pool(s) <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Laundry Facilities (self-service) <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Accessible bathroom Raised toilet, hand-held shower and grab bars at the tub and toilet Handicapped parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions> The rate sounds really good, especially with the free breakfast, but I'm not sure where to look on your list for comparisions - Mag Mile or Loop. Also wondering if you usually have to pay the parking over and above what the rate quoted is - or does it tell you that before you actually book. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding.Rates are VERY high for these dates unfortunately. If a listing is noted as in the Loop, then it is in the Loop area; I'm not sure why you're not seeing any hotels in the Mag Mile if you are clicking on one of the Mag Mile zones. I am not seeing many listings at all in the Mag Mile and what hotels are showing are very expensive, but there are a couple. The Loop 3* that you note above is likely the La Quinta Loop. Are you driving or flying in? If you are driving, I would be happy to suggest some lovely suburban areas - those areas would be a trek into the city, but they would offer some nice shopping/restaurant options, a few sights and free parking/cheaper hotels. For example, a 4* for $68 versus a 3* downtown for $208. You would have to take the train in for 35-45 min (although that would be the nicer Metra trains), but for a savings of around $140 a night, plus free parking.Parking is not included in HOTWIRE rates. Downtown hotel parking is about $45-65 per night at hotels or $25 + city tax at lots.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

blorsbac Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 Thank you so much for your help. I'll talk with my husband about staying out a little ways. What area would you suggest?Part of the issue is the reason for our trip is I'm taking our daughters to the One Direction concert in Tinley park and my husband it taking our son to a baseball game at Wrigley Field on Saturday night and we'll only have 1 car. Our plan if staying in the city was that I would drive to the concert and they would take public transportation to the game and back.If we stay out somewhere, they'll at least have to take public transportation from the game back to the hotel. We could leave them in the city when we leave for the concert, so getting there shouldn't be an issue. It's them getting back.On Friday, we could just drive in a park somewhere I'd think without too many problems. Thanks for any ideas / suggestions!
AaronJB Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 I'm seeing a 4* for $68 in the Northbrook area w/Free Parking Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access This would be a possible match for the Sheraton Northbrook or Westin North Shore. The Sheraton would be the more convenient of the two. There is also a 3.5* in the Northbrook area for $51 w/:Free Parking Indoor pool(s) Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower My guess would be the Hyatt Deerfield with a different amenity set than has been seen previously. If this is the Hyatt, I thought it was a very nice property when I've stayed there, but it was given a renovation not that long ago. If this was the Hyatt, that would be a very good result and a very reasonable rate.If you were willing to risk having to deal with the risk of one bed, you may be able to get something in this area in the $40's bidding on PRICELINE.The problem with the suburbs in this case would be the One Direction concert. It is fairly far from downtown to Tinley Park; it would be even farther (although certainly pretty much all expressway) from the North suburbs to Tinley Park. -------------------------------------------The other option would be staying in the far SW burbs. HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Oak Brook area w/Free Parking Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby For $85. This would likely be the Westin Lombard.Oakbrook would put you somewhat further away from Downtown, but closer to Tinley Park.In either instance, those going to Wrigley could be dropped off at the nearest Metra train station and taking the train downtown and then the CTA up to Wrigley once downtown. The problem is that the train does not run as often on weekends.--------------Lastly, I do see a 3.5* in the Loop for $123 when searching for the first night ONLY. The problem is the Saturday night.______________________So:North suburbs:Pros: Cheapest. A good deal of shopping, restaurants and a few sights. Cons: FAR from Tinley Park._____SW Burbs:Pros: A bit more expensive, but closer to Tinley Park.Cons: A tad further from downtown._______Downtown:Pros: Way easier to get to Wrigley. Convenient for siteseeing.Cons: Considerably more expensive. Still FAR to Tinley Park. Costly parking, whether at city lot ($25 + tax) or especially at hotel ($40/45-65 or so.)Please let us know if you have any questions before making a purchase.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
