Basically it seems that hotels put in the base rate (in this case, $198) and the maximum percentage they're willing to take off.

In this case, that would be $198 and 40% for weekend days (Fri/Sat and Sat/Sun). As such, the theoretical optimum bid would be $118.80 for the Venetian on weekend days right now.

Rates are based on supply and demand so you can't use this formula to calculate your bidding in the long run. I can see that you got similar rates for both of your stays but there are better and safer ways to do this for your future bidding to avoid overbidding. But you did well this time ;)
