taryn237 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 My main question is whether or not we'd be able to get a room cheaper closer to next weekend. I've tried 3.5* and up for Beacon Hill, Boston Commons, Financial District, and Harbor Front. I'm bidding up to $110 so far. I really don't want to spend much more than that. Any tips? Thanks :)
AaronJB Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding.I don't think you're too far off, but at this point these date/s unfortunately require a higher bid. What would be your absolute max per night?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
taryn237 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Probably $130. If there weren't so many taxes and fees we could go higher. Trying to keep the total about $250-300
taryn237 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 I thought hotels get cheaper closer in. Is that not the case?
thereuare Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Not necessarily...What if it's 6 months before check-in and a hotel is only 50% occupied... they offer their lowest 'opaque' rate in order to fill the rooms. Fast forward 2 weeks before check-in the hotel may have done well and gotten a lot of new reservations so that now only have a few rooms left... these rooms will be priced much higher then they were 6 months ago. ;)Of course the opposite could be true too if a hotel received a lot of last minute cancellations or didn't get as much business as they had expected leading up to the check-in date.Another example are 'walk-in' guests who just show up on the day of arrival and ask for a room... this is ultra-last minute and these guests often pay the most (there are extenuating circumstances why these guests pay the most, but it goes against your belief that the closer to check-in the better)You have to decide if locking in a deal now a little higher is worth the savings OR you can try to wait it out and hope for lower prices in the days head, of course with the understanding that rates could move higher instead of lower from here.See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ for more on this subject.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
taryn237 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 Yeah... I think we may just book the 2.5* express deal in East Cambridge with free parking and free breakfast. From my research that has to be the Holiday Inn Express which has very good reviews and is close to the T.
taryn237 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Just got this as a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal. With the extra 10% off code its a great deal even paying $30 for parking as the reviews say.
taryn237 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Decided on the new PRICELINE EXPRESS deal that just came up 3* in Cambridge for $86 a night and the 10% off bigcity4 code worked. Courtyard by Marriot.
