xinjiegu Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 I'm visiting New York for the first time and trying to bid on Priceline for the first time as well. The areas that I'm looking at are:Central Park SouthChelsea AreaEmpire State Building AreaHell's KitchenMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaMidtown EastMidtown WestTimes Square - Theatre District Wondering if $170-$200 per night budget would be enough and hope you can suggest bidding stratgy. Thank you.
thereuare Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Did you want to first try for a 4* hotel up to your maximum bid, then if rejected try for a 3.5* property... OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* hotel for this stay? Also, when bidding 3.5* and under in NYC note the following two caveats:CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which while well located has notoriously small roomsMTE - at 3.5* and under some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subwayWould either/both of these be acceptable? If/when bidding 3.5* let us know if we should or should not include either/both of these in a 3.5* bidding strategy. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. xinjiegu Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Thank you very much. I cannot get 4* hotel for $200. I see many posts here got good deals. Is it because I am bidding too early? Should I start in October for Novembers' bookings? thank you.
thereuare Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 The Fall is busy/high season in NYC so you should expect higher rates then what you're seeing others win for the summer months (which is low/slower season)What star rating and zones have you bid so far up to $200?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. xinjiegu Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 I have bid for the following regions up to $200 pn for 3.5*Central Park SouthChelsea AreaEmpire State Building AreaHell's KitchenMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaMidtown EastMidtown WestTimes Square - Theatre District
AaronJB Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 I think at this point you're likely not far off. HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the MSG-Hell's Kitchen area for $217 (the price you see may vary slightly) and a 4* MTE for $237 (again, the price you see may vary slightly.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
