travel123 Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Hi, I am new with this forum and I would appreciate if someone can help me out. I am planning to stay in Las Vegas (south strip) from Oct 31 to Nov 2 in a 5 star hotel. 1. Is it too early to bid from Hotwire or Priceline now?2. For Hotwire, it's either U$126 or U$112 for 5 Star, South strip. What might that be?3. For Priceline, it's U$133 for 5 star, South Strip. What could that be?4. Should I name my own price with Priceline in this case? I have been puzzled since weekend and hope someone can help me figuring it out.
yellowdog Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 No, it's not to early to star bidding or book with HOTWIRE.If you need any ID help for a hotel so please list the amenities HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS associates with the hotel you're looking at and we'll be happy to have a look at this. Please only post the amenity names (and not the full descriptions that go along with it) as it will make your post easier for us to read and helps minimize the chance that we miss an amenity when researching your hotel. Most of the the times can you undercut the HOTWIRE price on PRICELINE but if you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.I hope this answer you questions? Let us know your thought and we'll go from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
travel123 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 Thank you very much for your advice. I guess HOTWIRE is better fit into my criteria in this case. The amenities for a 5 Stars in Las Vegas, The Strip - South Area Hotel are (Oct 31 - Nov 2, 2013):A. US$126 Secret hot Rate (Regular U$255) Free Parking Resort Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby 90% Recommended B. US$112 Secret hot Rate (Regular U$250) Free Parking Free Internet Suite Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Business Center High Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby 90% RecommendedAny clue what they are?
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 For both listings, If you go back to HOTWIRE and click this offer from the search results page, then on the ensuing page click the 'See all' link under the amenities, do you see more than what you've posted above?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

travel123 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Thanks so much again!Yes, both of them have Accessible Bathroom.May I bother you once more on the "Express Deals" on PRICELINE? A 5 Stars on the Strip Vicinity South with PRICELINE is asking for U$133 with the following amenities:Indoor or Outdoor PoolRestaurantBusiness CenterCasinoFitness CenterRated 8 out of 10 (or higher)What's your guess?
travel123 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 I am thinking to give it a shot with the "Name you price" on PRICELINE.For a 5 stars on Vegas Strip South, I can only narrow it down to:CosmopolitanManadarin OrientalAriaBellagoVdaraFour SeasonsHave I missed other possible 5 stars in this area? What do you think the price range for this area from Oct 30 to Nov 2, 2013?Thank you once again.PS: For sure I will keep you updated for the result.
yellowdog Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Aria or Bellagio would be my guess for the PRICELINE EXPRESS dealPlease remember to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board and let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help with this stay.Yellowdog.PS. please remember to follow-up this thread with whatever you end up doing for this trip, even if you don't use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, cancel the trip, book direct, etc.
travel123 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Thank you so much for your prompt response:)Any advise on my other post (as quoted below)?I am thinking to give it a shot with the "Name you price" on Priceline. For a 5 stars on Vegas Strip South, I can only narrow it down to:CosmopolitanManadarin OrientalAriaBellagoVdaraFour SeasonsHave I missed other possible 5 stars in this area? What do you think the price range for this area from Oct 30 to Nov 2, 2013?Thank you once again.PS: For sure I will keep you updated for the result. Thanks,
thereuare Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 CosmopolitanManadarin OrientalAriaBellagoVdaraFour SeasonsHave I missed other possible 5 stars in this area? There could always be others, but you seem to have covered the likely suspects. What do you think the price range for this area from Oct 30 to Nov 2, 2013?All of the hotels you have asked about thus far from HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS have been in the $110-$130 area, so the PRICELINE bidding will be around this area as well... if you let us know your maximum bid we'll start lower and work our way up. Either you hit a win or if you bid too high without being successful then you can take one of the HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS properties. If you'd like bid on PRICELINE let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Also, are you still only looking at the Strip South zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. travel123 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 I would really like Mandarin Oriental, or Aria. For PRICELINE, my maximum bidding for Mandarin Oriental would be $110. Though my max. bid for Aria would be $90. I hope they can let us choose which hotel to bid. Looking forward to hearing your strategy. Please advise. Thanks.
Romelle Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 I hope they can let us choose which hotel to bid.PRICELINE does not let you "...choose which hotel to bid". You bid on a zone (or zones) at a star level (or higher) for selected dates. You have to be willing to accept any hotel within the zone maps that is at the star level you bid (or a higher star level). Before you bid, look closely at those Priceline maps. The shaded areas of a zone define the zone. You can zoom in on the maps to see detail such as street names.RomellePS - when the moderators have given you hotel names for PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE, do note they word it very carefully as their "best guess". While their track record is excellent, indeed it is possible to get a hotel different from a "best guess". Speaking from experience here. You have to be willing to assume that risk.
travel123 Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 That's very true. No wonder one of my friends has given up bidding at PRICELINE.Thanks for your advise and appreciate any suggestions on the strategy.Best RegardsThanks
yellowdog Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Appreciate any suggestions on the strategy. This is for 5* and for the South zone only and your max budget is $110/night before tax/fee's?Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Thanks for your advise and appreciate any suggestions on the strategy. It's not clear how you want to proceed since, as per above, you can't bid on a specific hotel, your bid is for a given star rating within a predetermined geographic zone... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. If you prefer to try to target a specific property or take a guess as to which hotel it is that you may receive before your purchase, then PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE is a better, although slightly more expensive, option. Please confirm how you would like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Sorry to hear you didn't receive the hotel you were hoping for, but as noted above:...you can't bid on a specific hotel, your bid is for a given star rating within a predetermined geographic zone... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. If you prefer to try to target a specific property or take a guess as to which hotel it is that you may receive before your purchase, then PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE is a better, although slightly more expensive, option. For $118/nite, including one Friday nite, this is still a nice deal and should be a nice, upscale, way to spend your anniversary. Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase. Enjoy your stay and Happy Anniversary.
