Priceline Hotel: NYC - October

My girlfriend and I are going to NYC from October 17 to October 24.

We want a want a 3*, 3.5* or 4* in these areas: TS, MTW, MTE, HK, Chelsea, ESBA and MSG. I'm not sure about Central Park Areas: UWS, UES and CPS. Can you tell me if they're worth it?

Our budget is somewhere around $170-$220. Is it doable?

We would really appreciate a bid strategy recommendation. Can you please help us? Is Hotwire a good alternative or do I stick with Priceline?

I would first try for the first seven zones you mentioned (TS, MTW, MTE, HK, Chelsea, ESBA and MSG) then if rejected you can think about whether you want to lower your star rating, SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, raise your budget, wait it out and hope for lower rates in the weeks ahead, or include the alternate set of zones (UWS, UES and CPS).

How did you want to start... try for a 4* up to your limit, try for the least expensive 3* (or better), or do you have some other plan in mind?

What do you mean by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?

Well, I was thinking on the macro strategy below:

1º - 3.5* - up to $190

2º - 4* - up to $220

3º - 3.5* - up to $220

4º - 3* - up to $190

5º - 3* - up to $220

In short, I prefer paying a little more on a 4* hotel than trying lower for a 3* at first.

What do you suggest?
