AaronJB Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Rates and inventory often varies significantly (and can sometimes quite significantly) from day-to-day and what one user gets does not reflect what it might take for another set of date/s.What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
saerogenta13 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Hi, I'm looking at somewhere around USD100 (excl taxes) per night...
thereuare Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable 4* property on one of these areas? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
saerogenta13 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 For Montparsse, that'll be $154 for Novotel Paris Porte D'orleans. For St Germain, it's $213 for Hotel Pavillion Opera
thereuare Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 For Montparsse, that'll be $154 for Novotel Paris Porte D'orleans. This property is not in the Montparsse zone, but in the Alesia - Orleans zone. For the zones that you've bid i'm seeing rates more in the $200+ which makes your $110 bid about half (or less) then prevailing rates, which may not be enough. At current rates i think you're more likely looking at $140-$160 for a 4* hotel in one of the zones above.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. saerogenta13 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 140-160 is way above my budget, would you suggest any alternative?
thereuare Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Your options come down to:wait it out and try again hoping for lower rates in the days/weeks aheadlower your star ratinginclude other nearby zonesPlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. thereuare Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 .. if i were to add montmarte into the mix, will it make my life easier? It certainly wouldn't hurt. You can simply add this zone to all your bids above, but if you need a more specific strategy just let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. saerogenta13 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 Hi, thanks for the quick response. It would be great if you could give me a more specific strategy, here are the zones that I have identified, again i'm very happy to stay in any of these areas, so if you could kindly provide me with a permutation that gives the lowest cost, i'd be eternally grateful!- Montparsse- Montmatre- Champs Elysees - Arc De Triomphe- Latin Quarter- Opera Quarter East - Les Halles- Opera Quarter West - Jardin des Tuileries- St. Germain

saerogenta13 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 hi there, thanks. just to be sure, should I do all of the above in 1 sitting i.e. within 24 hours? does the order matter?
thereuare Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Yes, you can make all of the above bids in the same bidding session... no need to wait 24 hours with any of the above. What order is it that you would be looking to change? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
saerogenta13 Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 nah, wasn't looking to change anything. I asked because in the previous post, it was mentioned that my bid could be too low, so I'm just trying to understand the rationale for starting at 70-ish..
thereuare Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 I'm just trying to understand the rationale for starting at 70-ish..1) you're adding a brand new zone which you never included in your previous bidding, if a hotel is available for this low in the new zone, you want to give yourself a chance to win it2) you have the re-bid zones available3) it takes time to put together the bid strategy, it was easiest to simply add the new zone to the previous strategy then start anewPlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
saerogenta13 Posted June 15, 2013 Author Report Posted June 15, 2013 Hi there, thanks for the explanation, really helps me understand this a bit more. Been bidding using the above strategy religiously, no luck so far..
thereuare Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if/how we can be of further help along the way. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck! Romelle Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I just read another thread where the bidder had gotten up to $170 with no success. He took a break and then noticed HOTWIRE was showing some better deals than before. He ran through his bidding sequence and scored at $138, less than a week before his trip. This was Portland, OR, but I wanted to tell you of the example. You might consider making cancelable back-up reservations. There are quite a few links to hotels and booking agencies on the Support page. A number of the hotels offered by booking.com are cancelable. Then you can calmly bid up to the very last.Romelle
saerogenta13 Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 Hi, thank you for the advice. Been looking around for cancellable hotels, but the ones within my budget is really not very appealing. Saw a citadines estab at republique at $160 a night, very nice but they charge the first night for cancellation.. Anyway could I check if I were to narrow my zones to Montparsse, OQW, OQE, La Marais and St Germain will this affect the strategy?
thereuare Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Yes, the strategy would need to be re-written so that you're using different zone combinations and that you don't create any duplicate bids... do you know only want to bid the five zones listed above? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
