sanford Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Hello! Looking for a room, 3-4 star, from June 23-26. Max budget is $180 before fees & taxes. My ideal would be a 3-star for $150.Here's what I've already tried:4-star only:$140: Hell's Kitchen$160: ADDED Midtown West$170: ADDED Central Park South3-star and up:$150: Midtown West, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Hell's Kitchen$155: ADDED Central Park South$160: ADDED Times Square - Theatre DistrictMy preferred zones are:Midtown WestCentral Park SouthTimes Square - Theatre DistrictMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaHell's KitchenMidtown EastUpper West SideThank you in advance.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is there a reason you have not bid the 4* level in all of your acceptable zones?HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel offered in the MSG zone for $180/nite which i'm guessing to the be the The New Yorker Hotel Ramada Plaza. Since this is within your budget, do you want to take this offer OR continue bidding on PRICELINE, and if moving forward with PRICELINE do you want to only stick with 4* hotels OR do you prefer a lower rated hotel for possibly less? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sanford Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 Hello and thank you!I'd like to stick with Priceline, as I'm not keen on the Ramada Plaza. I did the 4* bids first, but seeing how high the price was getting, I wanted to try again with 3 or 3.5* hotels to see if I could keep the price at the lower end of my budget. In response to your question: "do you want to only stick with 4* hotels OR do you prefer a lower rated hotel for possibly less?"I'd prefer the lower rated hotel for less.IDEAL would be: a 3-star or 3.5-star for $150-ish in one of these four zones: Midtown WestCentral Park SouthTimes Square - Theatre DistrictMadison Square Garden - Convention Area
thereuare Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Did you want to try for a 3.5* first up to your $150 limit OR try for the least expensive 3* or better? Also, when bidding 3.5* or under in the CPS zone the Hudson Hotel comes into play... while well located, this property has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards), would this be an acceptable outcome? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sanford Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Try for a 3.5* first, please. The Hudson is fine. I've stayed there twice before -- during our second visit, we found a bloodstain at eye level on the wall and were upgraded to a junior suite!
thereuare Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Sorry, in re-reading this thread i had one more question:My preferred zones are:Midtown WestCentral Park SouthTimes Square - Theatre DistrictMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaHell's KitchenMidtown EastUpper West SideIDEAL would be: a 3-star or 3.5-star for $150-ish in one of these four zones: Midtown WestCentral Park SouthTimes Square - Theatre DistrictMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaShould we include all acceptable zones (all 7 of them) in a 3.5* bidding strategy OR only include your 4 ideal zones (then if rejected you can decide if you want to include the other zones at the 3.5* level and same bidding limit OR lower your star rating to 3* for your four ideal zones)Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sanford Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Thanks. Of those three options, let's try this one:- lower your star rating to 3* for your four ideal zones
thereuare Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Still not clear...Did you want to first try for a 3.5* in just these FOUR zones, then if rejected try at the 3* level for the same FOUR ZONES... or are you starting with just FOUR ZONES and bidding for the least expensive 3* in any of these four zones? (ie- did you want to try 3.5* first or are we starting with 3*)... and to confirm, $150 maximum bid at this time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sanford Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Thank you for this, but it looks like I'm bidding too low. Priceline declined all my offers and suggested I re-bid starting at $199.I have decided I can increase my budget to $180, and add Midtown East / Chelsea / Upper West Side / Hell's Kitchen.Given that information, how should I proceed?

AaronJB Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 I'm not seeing the 2* when searching for this date - are you still seeing it?Additionally, Please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
