Hotwire Hotel: NYC hotels- overwhelming !!!

We are traveling to NYC aug 6-15. Would like suggestions for hotels in manhattan . Family of 4. We normally use PRICELINE with great success but were told hotel rooms small in NYC so better to use HOTWIRE to guarantee occupancy for 4. Overwhelmed and suggestions appreciated

Sharing any prior wins (as separate threads) would be greatly appreciated. With NYC for four people, I'd definitely suggest HOTWIRE. When searching HOTWIRE, are there any listings of interest within your desired budget? If so, please provide the complete details of the listing - zone, star rating, price per night (in USD$, before taxes/fees) and full list of amenities - and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID.

What is your budget per nite (before fees/taxes) for this trip? What type of hotels does your family usually stay in while on vacation? (ie- would you really be happy at a 2* property?)

We travel lots for sports so stay in some best westerns, etc

But vacations we usually go higher end as can get some amazing deals by bidding on Priceline

But holiday inns or best western would be fine for New York

Would like to stay under 200.00 per night if possible

Any ideas which hotels match up with above? Anyone tried to bid Priceline for two rooms instead of one to guarantee occupancy and get two for less than price of one one Hotwire? As spouse and I can each take a child in one room

One room for four on HOTWIRE is very likely going to be less than two rooms via PRICELINE, but is of course going to be less space than two rooms (and rooms in NYC can be very small.)

Best guess for the 4* would be the Millenium Broadway while for the 3.5* it would be the Hotel Manhattan at Times Square.

The Millenium Broadway is not perfect, but it would be the better choice of the two, imo.
