Priceline Hotel: 3* New York City (Madison Square Garden - Convention) Tryp Times Square South

Hi,

Thank you for posting so much information on these boards. It's my first time bidding and it was helpful to read everything. I'm looking to bid for a 4* hotel 100-140$ in NYC from 7/21/13 to 7/24/13 and was wondering what the best strategy is. We don't mind staying a bit farther away as long as we are close to the subway line (but we don't want to stay in Brooklyn or Long Island). Could you provide us with your thoughts??

Currently i think a 4* hotel in midtown will likely run you a little more then your target budget... we would suggest a strategy that started lower and worked your way up, but i'm guessing you'll likely need to be in the $155-$175 area.

HOWEVER, i'll also mention that the TRYP Times Square South has been coming up a LOT on HOTWIRE lately... it is 3.5* but it gets excellent reviews. What appears to be this property is offered for your dates for $137/nite and would seem to be a very good value based upon the reviews and within your budget. Not sure if you'd be interested in lowering your star rating to 3.5* and taking this offer thru HOTWIRE or trying to bid on PRICELINE for a 4* up to $140 (or raising your budget to increase your chances).

I also started to bid on Jersey City - Hoboken first for those dates to see if I could get a 4* under 130, I started at 100 and re-bid each time (using your re-bidding strategy) and went up to 128 without being successful. How much farther up do you think we need to go with Jersey in order to get a successful bid? If it is less than 137$ then I would prefer to stay in the 4* hotel in Jersey for the same price.

I have booked 3* Tryp Times Square South for 130$ on PRICELINE from bidding. I was able to get a better deal bidding compared to just buying it on HOTWIRE for 137$!
