geneticsgirl Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 I am attending a conference at the convention center (Boston Convention and Exhibition Center) in Boston in October (Oct 22-27). I have a rate with the conference of $221 a night at the Doubletree (they will be providing a shuttle), but that is a bit expensive (at least compared with my lab's budget for us to attend meetings), and so I was going to try to see if I can find a better rate in a hotel near the conference. I am going to try Priceline this week, and someone on TripAdvisor directed me here and suggested that I can restrict it to the Convention Center/Seaport area and guarantee that I will be near the convention center. I was wondering if anyone has tips for the process and ideas about a starting bid. I've never used Priceline before but had a negative experience with Hotwire once (I didn't do my homework ahead of time on that one). Thanks for the help!
yellowdog Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding :) The Convention Center/Seaport zone is the best choice if you want to stay near the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Is this the only zone you're willing to stay in? If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post your budget/night before tax/fee's and the star rating for the hotel.Let us know and we'll go from therePlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
geneticsgirl Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 I would say that my budget is $150-$175/night, like I said I already have a reservation for $221 in the Doubletree, so I would want it to be significantly cheaper than that one. I could possibly look at Boston Common-Theatre District (where the Doubletree is), and I could probably also do Quincy Market-Financial District. There are shuttles running from hotels 5-10 on this map: http://www.ashg.org/2013meeting/pages/documents/HotelMap.pdf. There were some hotels in those areas that were cheaper but did not have very good reviews on TripAdvisor. I would prefer to be close to the convention center if possible, since that will make the conference a lot easier. I just read reviews on the hotels on the Priceline lists, and I would avoid The W (it sounds very loud). Any help would be much appreciated!Thank you!!

geneticsgirl Posted June 5, 2013 Author Report Posted June 5, 2013 Just an FYI, I tried Priceline for $150 a night in the Seaport/Convention Center area and the offer was rejected. That isn't a huge surprise, but I wanted to try it. I believe my next move is to go with the B&B that I found for $135 a night. It will be more of a trek to get to the conference but has great reviews. Thank you for your help with this!
thereuare Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 Glad to see you have a back-up that works for your needs. Not sure of the location or quality of your current reservation, but HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Park Plaza for $155/nite, should this be of any interest. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
