SoonerGirl Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 My husband and I are traveling to New York July 14 – July 17. Would prefer to stay in a 4 star hotel. Our preferred zones are CPS, MTW, MTE, ESB, MSG or TS. Hoping to pay no more than $150 - $180 per night.Looking for assistance with a bidding strategy. Should I begin bidding now (2 months out)? Or wait until it gets closer? The MLB All Star game is July 16 at Shea Stadium. so I'm thinking I want to try and secure a room early.HOTWIRE shows a 4 star in Hell's Kitchen for $154, a 2 ½ star in Times Square for $168, a 3 ½ star in Midtown East for $169, and a 3 star in Midtown Central for $166. Any idea on which hotels these might be? Can I get a better price bidding through PRICELINE?I appreciate any advice!
thereuare Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 The 4* i'm seeing in the MSG-HK zone has the following amenities:Free Internet Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower If this is what you're seeing my best guess for this hotel would be the Ramada Plaza New Yorker?Does this work well for your needs and you want to take this offer OR do you want to try bidding for a 4* hotel in the other zones that you have listed? If you want to try bidding should we lower your maximum bid to $150 since if that is rejected you could simply take this offer (rather than bid higher on PRICELINE and still receive this same hotel which you could have therefore had for less)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Although summer is usually slow season in NYC, the All-Star Game may be inflating prices as the $154/nite rate looks to be very good relative to rates of the other 4* hotels offered at this point in time.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and/or how it goes and we'll take it from there. SoonerGirl Posted May 17, 2013 Author Report Posted May 17, 2013 Thank you for your prompt response!Since I have plenty of time before my trip, I think I'd like to try bidding on PRICELINE to try and get a better deal. I am not at all familiar with the MSG area (I have only been to NYC once before), so I would prefer ESP, MTE or MTW. I imagine a 4 star in MSG (or any of the areas I listed) would be more than adequate and in a great location. But I think I will try bidding through PRICELINE for a better price. Thanks,
thereuare Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 The Ramdada Plaza would be a very centrally located hotel, right near Madison Square Garden which also means you're right near Penn Station, with access to multiple subway lines. If you want to bid the other zones first, should we go up to your maximum bid of $180 or only up to ~$150 since you'd take the HOTWIRE hotel above if not successful up to the HOTWIRE rate? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. SoonerGirl Posted May 18, 2013 Author Report Posted May 18, 2013 Is the Ramada Plaza also called the New Yorker? I tried looking at reviews on Trip Advisor, but nothing came up for Ramada Plaza.Although I'm WILLING to pay $150, I would love to pay less through PRICELINE if you think that is possible. What is your best guestimate of what I will pay for a 4* for my dates and locations through PRICELINE? If I can pay less through the bidding process on PRICELINE, I think I will attempt to secure a hotel reservation through that process. Thanks again for your advice.
AaronJB Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 It was the Ramada Plaza New Yorker, but now is generally called just the New Yorker. Based on the rates I'm seeing - 4*'s on HOTWIRE are over $215 when I'm searching for these date/s. I'm guessing you're likely looking at more around $175-195 and possibly higher depending on the zone.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
SoonerGirl Posted May 19, 2013 Author Report Posted May 19, 2013 Well, I decided to pull the trigger on the HOTWIRE hotel in MSG, and, of course, it is no longer offered! So, if you could provide me a PRICELINE bidding strategy, I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks!
