Calimero Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Hi,I would like to stay in San Francisco from 4th to 13th of October.Downtown Area 3.5+ star hotel would be ideal.I've placed two biddings on Priceline but no luck.1. 100$ for 4+2. 85$ for 3.5+Areas: 1-6,9,12,13Should i bid every couple of days or do i have better chances to get a good deal (80$-120$) 1-2 months prior to arrival in SFO?I hope you can give to a beginner some advicesorry for grammar/spelling mistakes :)greetings from Austria
thereuare Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! The zone numbers will change any time PRICELINE adds, removes, or renames a zone, so to avoid any confusion now or in the future, please list the zones, by PRICELINE name, that you are willing to accept and we'll then have a further look into this trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. Calimero Posted May 30, 2013 Author Report Posted May 30, 2013 Thx for the reply.I was thinking of Fishermans Wharf, Union Square East, Union Square West, Financial, Japan Town, Soma - Moscone Center.
thereuare Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 We can suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like, but at current rates i think you're likely looking at $160-$180 for a 3.5* property and $180-$200 for a 4* property. At the moment it seem like bids up to $120 would have a VERY LOW probability of success in these zones... using MAPS and HOTELS.com (where you can filter to only show you the 3.5* and higher hotels on the map) what is the best rate you're currently able to find for a 3.5* or better hotel in one of these areas? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Calimero Posted May 30, 2013 Author Report Posted May 30, 2013 Ive thought so.I just checked and it looks like there will be a big convention from 12th of October. So i want to stay from 4th to 11th in Downtown and stay from 11th to 13th somewhere else.Do you think i should look for a good deal now or are there better rates just 1-3 months prior arrival date?
thereuare Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 While there is a 16K attendee conference Oct 12-16, there is a also a 7K attendee conference Oct 3-6, and $120 still looks like a bit of a reach for 3.5* or better hotel in the zones you've listed as acceptable, even for your subset date range.... but we can certainly try if you'd like. When bidding 3.5* in San Francisco you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* FW, USE, USW...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Financial, Japantown, SOMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* FW, USE, USW, Financial, SOMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* FW, USE, USW, Financial, Japan TownBid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* FW, USE, USW, Financial, Japantown, SOMA...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113 if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120While i think 3.5* is a reach, 4* would be even more so, but if you wanted you could even try the above at the 4* level first, if rejected close the browser, use the board link to re-access PRICELINE, and then try at the 3.5* level.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Calimero Posted May 31, 2013 Author Report Posted May 31, 2013 Thank you for your tips :)You're right. 80-120$ is probably not enough around this time.I also will try HOTWIRE for the next weeks and hopefully i can post some nice results. One question though:In your experience, are there better rates 1-3 months prior arrival date or do you get the best rates around this time ?
thereuare Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 There is no way to know if rates will come down or move higher between now and your dates.Using the conference example above, hotels are expecting a certain number of conference bookings and price rooms accordingly... if the conference is better attended then expected and the hotel books more rooms then expected, then rates will likely move even higher from here. The opposite is also true... if the hotel gets fewer reservations on the books then expected then they may lower rates in order to try to bring in more business.
