Hi,

I've been doing some reading, and it seems the best idea is to come on the board and ask for help. I'm planning to go to new york between July 22-July 26. We're looking for a 4* hotel and looking to spend between $140-$180. The location we'd like to stay in order of preference is: Upper West Side, Upper East Side, SoHo, Financial District. If you can give me a strategy/ your thoughts if we can get a hotel in that price range, that would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Just to confirm, have you been to NYC before and familiar with the different areas, as the zones above are not the ones that are typically bid for the average user. (most average users prefer to stay in midtown for the more central which is usually convenient to mutliple subway lines and serves as a good 'launching pad' to get to other parts of the city)

If these are the zones you ultimately decide upon, are you willing to pay more to stay in your first choice of zone vs. your second choice vs. your third choice, etc, etc... OR is the goal the least expensive 4* or better in any of the zones you've mentioned above?

Please confirm the zones, or ask questions, and we'll take it from there.

This is my first time, but my girlfriend has been and told me these locations will be good as they are a little bit further from everything, so it's not so busy/loud around or hotel, but still close enough to the subway that we'll be able to travel to where we want to go.

Please let me know what you think of this/if you believe we'll have a hard time getting around.

Also, I'm willing to pay more for my first perfected location. But if you have a rough estimates on how much a hotel would cost in the other locations I'd really appreciate seeing what the different costs may be. I'm just assuming the price difference won't be that significant between the various locations I listed.

Thanks for your help!

The NYC subway system is excellent, but ideally you still want to stay in midtown, imo, and only look towards the outskirts of midtown is not affordable within your budget. For example, from Downtown to midtown can be 20-25 minutes via subway... why make that trip each time you want to get towards midtown if it can be done in less than half that time? Things are just much more convenient in midtown.

At the moment i see similar rates in the zones you've mentioned and staying in midtown, so i don't think there is any savings to be had by staying outside of the center. However, ultimately you (and your girlfriend) know your needs/wants for this trip best and need to decide which area(s) work best for your needs.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

I think we'll stick to the areas I mentioned before. We're okay with the potentially longer subway ride. We're figured we want to be in a less busy place for our hotel and will want to travel around all around New York. Thanks for your advise though!

Thanks for your help. So we changed our method and preference choices. We started at 140, but didn't get anything until we got the intercontinental Barclay for $175.00. I would've preferred a more modern hotel as the rooms look a bit dated from the pictures. I think we could've gotten a cheaper price if we tried a couple of weeks earlier, but I think we got an okay deal.

It'd be awesome to get you guys thoughts about the deal as well as what you think about the hotel. And if you had any tips on how we can make the most poor of our trip.

Thanks again for your help.

Congrats on your success. :)

Nice deal for this well-located property and hopefully the hotel will exceed expectations.

Congratulations on your win.

You're near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

Have a great time in NYC.
