yellowdog Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding :) Please post your firm dates for the stay and we'll be happy to take a look at this.We are hoping to get a King/Queen sized bed (and not two doubles or something...) from HOTWIRE FAQ. All rooms booked on Hotwire will accommodate the appropriate number of guests in each room, based on the total number of guests you provided and the number of rooms you requested. Some of our hotel partners allow you to reserve your beds (e.g., king, queen) at the time of booking. Look for this indicated in the search results. If this option is not available, please contact the property directly. While we cannot guarantee that your request will be accommodated, our hotel partners will do their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. flash90 Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 Hi Yellowdog,We haven't decided on exact dates but I imagine it will be around July 5 to 12. Thanks!thereuare - I've checked the HOTWIRE links on this site and I've come to the conclusion that the property is either InterContinental or Marriott... not sure though! I also read some reviews about customers getting stuck with double sized...but I'm hoping because it's probably not as busy in July this is not the case. Would booking for 7 days put me in a disadvantage in this regard? Just trying to get some insight on how the tools work.
thereuare Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Occupancy levels and what is available is a big factor in the room type that you are assigned, but there are many other factors as well... what is available at check-in, mood of the front desk clerk, hotel policy, etc. While there are some hotels that do appear to discriminate towards guests who book thru 3rd party websites, fortunately this is the exception and not the rule, and the vast majority of stays go off without any issue. It is too easy to blame PRICELINE or HOTWIRE (or any other 3rd party booking) when you don't get the room type you really wanted, but sometimes it's just not available, or you didn't make your preference known. For example, i recently had a hotel stay where i booked direct since i needed a specific location for an event, and the room i was assigned was next to the elevator. If i had booked thru a 3rd party website it would be easy to use that as a scapegoat for the room type assigned, but i don't believe there was any 'ill intent' since i actually had a very good repertoire with the clerk at check-in and he gave me an additional perk i wasn't technically entitled to... so i know the clerk had no bad intent with the room assigned, but if i had booked thru a 3rd party it would be easy to say "i got the room next of the elevator because i booked thru a 3rd party" (and there would be no way to prove otherwise) I'll further add that the room was fine and no elevator noise was heard at all. :)More directly to your stay, seven nites is only a factor if there is high occupancy on any nite during your stay... your chances would be better for a 7 nite stay of low occupancy than for a 2 nite stay of high occupancy (all other factors being equal). Are your dates of travel flexible OR do you have to coordinate with other aspects (time off from work, airline tix, etc) before confirming your dates? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. flash90 Posted May 25, 2013 Author Report Posted May 25, 2013 Do you think I can use this info to book through PRICELINE? If so, what would be a good baseline bid?Sorry, I don't have much experience with this. Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated.
thereuare Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 If you bid on PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you bid.... because this is suspected of being the hotel currently offered on HOTWIRE it is not an indication that it is the hotel you will receive on HOTWIRE.If you are willing to accept any hotel then you can use the room rate of this HOTWIRE property as your maximum bid, but if you're trying to use this information in order to target this property on PRICELINE it can't be done.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
