dd05 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 My husband and I are going to Boston for a concert 6/12. Its at the Bank of America Pavillion so I would love a hotel in the downtown area if possible but I don't want to spend more than $125/night. Anything below a 4* sounds awful. Any suggestions for bidding would be greatly appreciated. Unsuccessful so far :/
yellowdog Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding.Rates are on the higher side for your date. My guess is that $125 for a 4* don't cut it. A 3.5* or 3* is more within your budget. Can you please post the name of the zone(s) you're willing to stay in and we'll have a look at this. Please use the board's PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your purchases and searchesYellowdog.
dd05 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Report Posted May 22, 2013 I'm really open to any area. We've stayed in Cambridge a couple times. I would prefer some where downtown like seaport, quincy market or harbor but I really just need some place close to the T. Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 At current rates any 4* in 'true' downtown will likely cost you more than $125/nite... please list all acceptable zones, by PRICELINE name, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Keep in mind that your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. crito Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Note that the Bank of America Pavilion is in the (generally cheaper) Waterfront/Convention Center region. You can save a heap of money by staying in that region. It's not a great area for sightseeing or nightlife, as I guess you know.
dd05 Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 Waterfront-Convention center (min 4*), Quincy Market-Financial district (min 4*), Harborfront-Aquarium (min 4*), Copley Square-Back Bay (minimum of 3 1/2*), Boston Common-Theater District (min 4*)I would love to spend less than $125 if at all possible but I feel I might need a miracle! Thanks again! If it would save me a significant amount of money, I would also be open to Cambridge East and West
thereuare Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Which star ratings and zones do you want to try for first? What what point do you want to include the Cambridge zones and/or lower to 3.5* for only the Copley Square-Back Bay zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dd05 Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 I pretty much put them in order. Like I said previously, I would like to be downtown (anywhere downtown in those areas) but the price is most important. I would stay in Cambridge if if was cheaper.
thereuare Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 ...the price is most important. Then do you want to bid all acceptable zones and win with the one with the lowest price? While i think that based upon current rates your budget will difficult at either star level, did you want to first try for a 4* hotel up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5*... OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dd05 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 The goal is the least expensive hotel with minimum 3.5*
thereuare Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Waterfront-Convention center (min 4*), Quincy Market-Financial district (min 4*), Harborfront-Aquarium (min 4*), Copley Square-Back Bay (minimum of 3 1/2*), Boston Common-Theater District (min 4*)The goal is the least expensive hotel with minimum 3.5*So if you're starting by 3.5* bidding, should we be including Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, and/or Boston Common in the bidding strategy since for these zones you previously indicated you wanted to a 4* minimum here??Please clarify and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Also, we will include both Cambridge zones as well. dd05 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 4* first then 3.5*, lowest price possible.
thereuare Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 While i think your $125 budget will be difficult, you can begin as follows:When biding 4* in Boston you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, Copley Square, Boston Common...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Cambridge East, Cambridge West...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, Copley Square, Boston Common, Cambridge East, Cambridge West...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected should we then exclude Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, and/or Boston Common in any 3.5* bidding strategy? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dd05 Posted May 25, 2013 Author Report Posted May 25, 2013 This is ridiculous!! How much do you think I'll have to spend on a room? I went as low as 3 stars with a bid of $135 and still no hotel!! I did 3 1/2* for Cambridge East, West, and Copley Square. No dealI went down to 3* for Cambridge East, West, Beacon Hill. I even added other areas to get more bids. Still nothing! Please help! I'm extrememly frustrated. :(
AaronJB Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 I think you're likely looking at $145-165 for a 3.5*. Unfortunately, although it's worth trying lower, I think a 4* will likely take over $200.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Romelle Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 HOTWIRE has a Brookline-Newton-Harvard 3* for $118. Not exactly where you want to be, but might be worth a look. Boston's public transportation could get you downtown and back. Driving is a challenge, and parking expensive.Romelle
dd05 Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 So I've decided I'm going to have to change my area. I was thinking more in the Netwon-Waltham area, 3 1/2-4*. My goal is $125 or less! Suggestions?
thereuare Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Even rates in the suburbs are high and at current rates i think you're still going to have trouble with a 3.5* or better at $125 or less, but to give it a try, did you want to first try for a 4* up to your maximum bid and then lower to 3.5* if rejected, OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Assuming all your previous zones are still acceptable as well, you can simply add Newton-Waltham to the previous bid strategy:Select 4* Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, Copley Square, Boston Common, Newton-Waltham...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Cambridge East, Cambridge West, Newton-Waltham...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waterfront, Quincy Market, Harborfront, Copley Square, Boston Common, Cambridge East, Cambridge West, Newton-Waltham...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
