fullsmoke Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 I have used this forum to win previous bids and think this is a wonderful resource but I have not had any luck with 4* Soho 5/24-5/26 for the past week. I've tried as high as 245 and have been rejected. Is it due to the dates being Memorial Day?Thanks
thereuare Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!I have used this forum to win previous bids and think this is a wonderful resource...Think about how much better it could be if you shared your previous wins with the board... we hope you begin to do so. ;)Rates are date specific... using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel in this zone for your dates? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

Also, this is Memorial weekend... Is this why I'm having issues bidding?(And I will be sure to post my winnings now that I have a login)
AaronJB Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 I'm not sure why you've encountered difficulty bidding - possibly an issue with this particular zone. HOTWIRE has a 4.5* in the Downtown-Soho-Financial (keep in mind hotels in that zone can be in the downtown/financial district area) for $245, a 4.5* in MTE for $255, a 4* in ESB for $257 and a number of others. Is the Soho zone the only zone of interest?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
fullsmoke Posted May 20, 2013 Author Report Posted May 20, 2013 Unfortunately I have to stay in SoHo so no wiggle room for location. I figured I was having such trouble because its memorial weekend? I have never come across this problem...
AaronJB Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 Rates in other zones, while expensive, don't seem overly high for NYC for the Spring. I'm guessing it may be something going on with this particular zone. If you can get another nearby zone (the Downtown/Soho/Financial for $245 on HOTWIRE for example, or bidding cheaper) and take a cab to Soho, would that be preferable over than going moderately higher bidding for Soho?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
fullsmoke Posted May 21, 2013 Author Report Posted May 21, 2013 Well, I just tried again to bid in Soho starting at 170... Priceline took me to one of those "suggestion" pages to increase my price by 31 to 201/night. I decided to just go ahead and try it and got Sheraton Tribeca at 201/night.It seems as if the hotels in this area were holding out until the last week to try to fill them with lower rates because it's Memorial weekend... Makes business sense, right?Anyway, thanks for the help!
AaronJB Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice last-minute deal for this period. Glad you are pleased with the win.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
