jetski559
From my research, there is literally ONLY ONE 4.5 star resort at Poipu, which is the Grand Hyatt. This is the resort I want, and don't want anything else.I just have no idea what else I would get, I believe the Koa Kea is listed as a 4* , but not a 4.5*.This is my honeymoon, so I can't mess this up, I just want to know what else I would get besides the grand hyatt. The price showing is 290 and the cheapest other rate I can find is 351 through AAA discountDates are sept 8-11th, 2013.so, what else could it be? Also, should I try to book with priceline instead? If I name my own price on a 4.5 resort in poipu area, is there anything even POSSIBLE to get something besides the hyatt?here is the hotwire specs:4.5-star Hotel in PoipuThis Hotel features the following amenities:Resort Resorts offer a complete destination experience. thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Please post only the amenity names (and not the descriptions) as you can see how much easier it is to read and helps minimize the chance that we'll miss an amenity when researching your trip.4.5-star Hotel in Poipu Resort Free Parking Beachfront Oceanfront Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Spa Childrens Activities Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in ShowerThe Grand Hyatt Kauai has previously been seen with this amenity set so that would be my best guess for this one.It could always be something other than we think, and PRICELINE could add a new property to their inventory (or re-rate a given property to the 4.5* level regardless of whether you believe that is the appropriate rating for the newly rated hotel). It comes down to a calculated risk and how much risk you're willing to accept in exchange for the discount. Given the amenities shown match previous reports for the Hyatt, is that worth $60/nite savings or do you not want any risk and decide to book direct? If this risk is acceptable then how much more savings would you need to take the chance by bidding on PRICELINE where you could receive any 4.5* or higher rated hotel in the zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes OR how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to assist further. Reisen
I don't think it's worth it for $290. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai last year, a couple of thoughts:- We paid $160 a night (for two nights) in early June of 2012.- We were upgraded at the front desk to a garden view. The room was fantastic. A++- The resort exceeded our expectations, and we've been to some really nice places (including a suite in the Princeville St. Regis on Starpoints that same trip). I think you're on the right track to want this specific hotel. That said, I would suggest three options:1. Wait a little and see if the rate goes down. I suspect the property is indeed the GH, I just don't like it at $290.2. Call Hyatt directly, explain it's for your honeymoon, and see what they can offer you in terms of a prepaid rate.3. Sign up for the Hyatt Credit Card, spend $1k in the first 3 months, and get 2 free nights at any Hyatt property. Use this at the GH (I think that property is eligible, but you might want to double check). I like this option. When you go to Kauai (not sure if you've been), be sure to get a Puka dog near the hotel (google it). Also, the Kalalau trail is fantastic, including the hike to the waterfall. Enjoy! Link to comment
jetski559
Sorry for the extra items. I'm just learning. The prepaid rate is 360. What other hotels are even out there in this region? Link to comment
Reisen
I think the Sheraton would be your other possibility. Link to comment
jetski559
Sheraton is only showing 4 stars, so if I bid on a 4.5 star they can't give me the 4 star sheraton right? Link to comment
thereuare
Correct... assuming the Sheraton does not get upgraded between now and the time you bid. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
