ChiTownBossLadyBSW Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 I'm overwhelmed, new to the Board- be kind. I have read a little bit here, there, etc. but the Buck stops here, hopefully. Going to Puerto Rico, dates are May 23-29 w/tween son. I want tostay at the Caribe Hilton or Marriott Stellaris (1st choice) due to the multiple pools, kids club at Caribe, spas & close proximity to old san juan, local bus, inexp cab rides. My son and I are foodies, already mapped out dozens of restaurants and the upcoming restaurant week (actually 2 wks). My desire is to have a fab relaxing vacation w/enough local&property amenties/attractions if we want to indulge or to kick back aand njoy the beach. Have I missed a property as an option (i.e., video arcade, kids club is a must). $100 a night is what im shooting for. read about rebid zones but scared to get jammed up and not get what Iwant. what do I do now/first.Thanks
See theworld Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 You may want to go HOTWIRE instead. PRICELINE has added the SJ Water Club to their list of resorts - and that's more of an adult's place with almost no pool (small). That could be a trip ruiner for a young one. Seems like hotwire has been showing the Caribe (Condado) pretty regularly but for more like $130. You first step would be to look through the resorts available through Priceline and determine if all those places are acceptable to you. If so, you are ready to bid; if not, you need to weigh your options.
thereuare Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates....kids club is a must...If this is a must, rather than a want, then i don't think PRICELINE or HOTWIRE will be a good option as there is no way to ensure a property that offers a kids club.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. On a side note, look into 'La Casita Blanca' if it's not on your list of restaurants (although i hear the neighborhood can get a little rough at nite so you'll want to take a taxi both to and from) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ChiTownBossLadyBSW Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Must is a strong and limiting word, i "must" (tee hee hee)agree. Multiple Pool(s) and beach on property that families gravitate toward would suffice for for my teen kid if we are on point within a bus of of Old San Juan and lots of good food and salsa (looking forward to Heineken Jazz) troupes being downtown san juan with other sights and sounds. no need in him hanging around a bunch of Mr & Mrs. Ropers :) Any resort type properties (spas too) I haven't thought of. You didn't mention Stellaris in your reply, not a snowballs chance huh?
thereuare Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 Multiple Pool(s) and beach on property that families gravitate toward would suffice for for my teen kid if we are on point within a bus of of Old San Juan and lots of good food and salsa...As per above, with PRICELINE you can't guarantee anything other than a hotel at the minimum star rating you've selected (or better) that will accommodate double occupancy... you won't be able to ensure a hotel on the beach, with multiple pool(s) (or a pool at all), and near a bus stop. The deep discounts that are often seen thur the opaque providers are in exchange for being flexible in the hotel you receive... since you have certain requirements, i think you're better off using HOTWIRE where you can at least take a guess as to the hotel being offered to see if it will meet your needs, or if you can't take any risk book direct.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ChiTownBossLadyBSW Posted May 23, 2015 Author Report Posted May 23, 2015 We stayed at Embassy Suites 3.5 star; I don't know the zone of this hotel; we only stayed 1 night of entire trip (5/22-5/29) Stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Isle Verde Beach 3.5 star $117 5/23-5/26 Lastly, we stayed at San Juan Conrad CondadoPlaza 4 star $101 5/26-5/29. I loved that we stayed in three (3) different areas. Loved Condado area the most; but the beach was fantastic at Isle Verde; not so much at Conrad; didnt go to beach at Embassy. Pinkys was our favorite place to eat every morning in Condado. This was a great vacation. sorry don't know zones.
