Mayan Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 We are intrested in a hotel in NYC for 31/7/13-3/8/13- must be 3.5-4 stars. The areas that are OK for us:- Empire state Building- Times Square- Midtowen east + west- Hell's kitchenwe thoght to offer 130$ a night. what are our chances? Thanks,Mayan
AaronJB Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 A couple of the 3.5*'s in MTE are towards the far E border of the zone and are rather out of the way, would that be acceptable? Is your desired budget $130 "all-in" (with taxes/fees) or $130 + taxes/fees?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Mayan Posted May 6, 2013 Author Report Posted May 6, 2013 Thank you for your answer. we prefer to be un the center- so maybe the MTE is not good for us. it is very important to be next to a subway station. for us- 130 $ - we preffer after taxes- if it's not possible- maybe 140 $ (with taxes)? is this more relevant? Thanks,Mayan

thereuare Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 A rate of $140 all-in amounts to about a $115 bid price, which at the moment is not likely going to be enough for a centrally located 3.5 star. Summer is usually slow season in NYC so i wouldn't exactly chase this one at the moment, but if you use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, search within 1 mile of 'New York City, NY' what is the best rate you're able to find for a 3.5* or better hotel in one of the zones you're willing to bid? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.PS- if you haven't yet please read your messages. Mayan Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 Thank yor but it is very importent to us to sleep in the center. What is the minimum amount you would start for a 3.5 * hotel in the areas mention below? Thanks,Mayan
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 PS- if you haven't yet please read your messages.2xThe starting bid is irrelevant, it's how high you're willing to go is the more important piece of the puzzle.HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the ESB zone with for $155/nite (before fees/taxes) with Boutique, Restaurant, Laundry. Best guess for this property would be the King and Grove New York.. would this work for your needs? You could try to beat this rate by bidding on PRICELINE and use this rate as your maximum bid, but you're then subject to any hotel in the zone(s) that you bid and can't take a guess beforehand what it is that you may receive.I'll also add that while i'm not sure what you're plans are for this trip, at 3.5* and under in the MTE zone hotels can get to be a bit far east and i wouldn't consider them to be necessarily be 'central', and the only 'known' hotel reported to the board in the Hell's Kitchen zone (Ink48) gets great reviews but is not that well located for subway access. I think there are other zones which you haven't included, such as Chelsea and/or MSG, that are generally better located at the 3.5* level.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Mayan Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 Thank you. I think 155 $ a night is the maximum we are willing to pay, but we preffer to start with a lawer budget. Do you think that with 130$ (before taxes) for this period we can manage to fing someting by bidding on Priceline or Hotwire? What is your general opinion on a 3.5 * hotels in NY? are they clean? It is importent for us to be close to the subway, so maybe we will expand our search to more areas. What do you think? Thanks,Mayan
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Do you think that with 130$ (before taxes) for this period we can manage to fing someting by bidding on Priceline or Hotwire? On HOTWIRE no, since they show the room rates before purchase, and there is currently nothing showing within your desired zone, star rating, and budget. What is your general opinion on a 3.5 * hotels in NY? are they clean?Generally yes, but in NYC (and other very large cities) the quality within the same star rating can differ a bit more then elsewhere. However, i would think that at the very least a 3.5* would be 'acceptable' to most people. What do you think? At current rates you really don't have that much flexibility... adding more zones will give more hotels the ability to accept your bid, but as noted above, you need to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the zone that you bid, and i've already expressed some concern about two of the zones you wanted to include in your bidding. I'm not sure if you're considering excluding these zones now or keeping them but also adding others. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. I get the folowing answer (even when I cange the amount) "Please verify the following information to continue with your request.•Please change at least one part of your original request"What to do?Thanks,Mayan
thereuare Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 On the first round of bidding did you:ONLY bid TS and ESB and MSG?on the next bid did you ONLY bid MTW and Soho (and not add MTW and Soho to the previous three zones bid?)The above should not be considered a duplicate bid so my guess is that you didn't close the browser between bids (and bid on 5 zones on your second bid instead of only the two zones indicated) OR that you used a different combination on your first round of bidding.Since you have some time i'd wait a full 24 hours since you last bid (or attempted to place a bid) and re-try. If you think you may have bid incorrectly the first round and are confused as to how you should be bidding, feel free to ask questions or clarification. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Mayan Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 You are correct. On the second round I bid on all 5 areas since I can't erase the firs 3 areas I tried to bid on. How do I do that? Thanks,Mayan

Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINEYou need to close the browser after each bid and then re-access PRICELINE.If you use the search box on the top right of this page, PRICELINE opens in a new window so that when you close the browser all you need to do is click the GO button once again since all your trip information (city, dates, rooms, etc) is still there.Let us know if you have any problems.
