Edge Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Hi Everyone,Newbie here, I used Priceline many years ago and got some great deals on hotels. However I feel a little out of touch now so am hoping someone can help!I am visiting San Francisco for the first time from the UK. I am travelling solo, early thirties and am keen to see all the main attractions and enjoy the nightlife too. Browsing this forum, I understand Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf may be the best place to stay for this? Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I'd basically like to explore the city and its attractions by foot.- I require a hotel for 4 nights from 11th-15th May (i.e. this week!)- 3*/3.5*/4* rating (not that fussy!)- Max Budget $150 per night (however, the cheaper the better!)Can anyone recommend me a bidding strategy please? Thank you in advance! :)
thereuare Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet please read your messages.Did you want to first bid up to your limit for a 4* hotel, if rejected try for a 3.5*, etc... OR is the goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.Thanks. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Edge Posted May 6, 2013 Author Report Posted May 6, 2013 Thank you for your reply!I guess the goal is to find the cheapest 3* or better for this trip. Any help would be very much appreciated :)
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 When bidding 3* in San Francisco you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* USE...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USW...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* FW...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and USW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and FW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and USW and FW...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115If the above is rejected HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in the USW zone for $118/nite with:Free Internet Boutique Fitness Restaurant Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Travel Accessible Bathroom Accessible ... best guess for this property would be the Mark Twain. If the PRICELINE bidding fails you can opt for this HOTWIRE offer (if still available, currently listed as only one room left) OR if not available we'll revise to bid again up to $128/nite.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Edge Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 thereuare - Thank you for your help again!I went through the entire bidding process (as described) up to $115 but unfortunately was unsuccessful in getting a 3* Hotel in USE, USW or FW. I used Richmond as my re-bid zone.Checked Hotwire and they seem to still have (what looks like) The Mark Twain hotel for $108 now. However I am a little concerned by some horror reviews on TripAdvisor about it - so am tempted to try again with Priceline tomorrow. Will look at altering my strategy to go up to $128 instead this time (using your links of course!)Thanks again for all your input :)
