loren01 Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Hi there,I'll be in NYC from October 8 to October 20. We'll be in 3 people. I would like to pay around USD 150 for a hotel (just want something clean, no frills), without taxes. We would prefer midtown west, but anywhere near a subway would be ok (initially not up 60th Street). Am I asking too much? Would that be possible to find any sales for that period? I'm in doubt if I should try to book now (although I haven't found anything in that price range) or wait a little bit more. Thanks,Loren
AaronJB Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 If you are three people, I'd suggest consideration of HOTWIRE instead of PRICELINE - with PRICELINE, it's quite likely you will get 1 bed in NYC. With HOTWIRE, one can indicate the amount of people in the party, which should ensure some form of bedding for the entire party.Unfortunately, week+ stays sometimes become difficult in NYC and October is one of the busier/more expensive months of the year. Based on the rate/s I'm seeing, I think you're likely looking at $185-215, depending on the zone for these date/s. Which zones would be acceptable? If this October is similar to how October traditionally is, you have some time but I'd try to be persistent in terms of locking something in.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
loren01 Posted May 6, 2013 Author Report Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks much for your answer! I am looking Hotwire every day. The acceptable zones would be Central Park South, Midtown West, Chelsea, Midtown East, Empire State Building, Soho and Times Square. But I would like a place with elevator.
thereuare Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Are you now solely looking at HOTWIRE instead of PRICELINE due to the occupancy issue? If you search HOTWIRE for your dates and triple occupancy does anything appear within your desired star level and budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these link before replying.Thanks. loren01 Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 Hi there,I’m looking in both sites – in Priceline I was looking for 2 rooms, but I kind of gave up as I would have to make a very low bid to be as competitive as Hotwire (the max I bid was USD 81 for each room, but didn't get anything). Now I’ve just seen a 2* star hotel in Soho for USD 148 for 3 people. The amenities are:Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Accessible for the deaf TTY for telephone, visual or flashing fire alarm and vibrating alarm clock Any guess on what hotel(s) could be? Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 This property has not yet been reported to the board.Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. loren01 Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 It's a good idea to reserve the hotel for one night... I'm thinking about it.Thanks
AaronJB Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 It would not likely be either the Holiday Inn or Hilton Garden Tribeca, unfortunately. Given the variation in quality of hotels at 2.5* and under in NYC, I also agree that it's a good idea to see if you can book one night and then - if you like the hotel - book the rest.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
