Parking near Downtown LA hotels

I've frequently used downtown LA hotels for my work -- but I still haven't found a good place to park. Hotel parking run generally $25 or $30 per night (with free in/out previledges) and public parking in the area typically charge $15 for overnight parking. Even motorcycles get charged these rates. An alternative is to park on the street and risk getting towed at 8am.

Does anyone know of a good alternative or good places to park?

Someone posted that you can park at Union Station for $6 per day, then take the train to your hotel.
