My guess would be a slightly different amenity set than has been previously seen with the Intercontinental.

HOTWIRE reservations are for regular/non-upgraded rooms. Requests can be called into the hotel, but they may say no or charge more. There's no way to know, as it varies by hotel and could very well vary by the day and who you talk to.
