tan Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Hi I am planning to visit NYC with my family ( 2 Kids and Wife) on Jun 8 to Jun 12.I have been bidding for the past two days and have gone up to 185$ for a 4 star and above, selecting all areas in NYC except Brooklyn. But no luck yet. Is my target too low ? I also see that there is a PRICELINE EXPRESS option now where a 4 star in Downtown area is going for 214$ and a 4 star in MidTown East for 245$. Should I just go ahead and get that? Any idea what sort of hotel they are giving in express bids.Any help/tips are welcome.
thereuare Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! Before bidding further, note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. This is especially true in NYC where rooms are notoriously small and rooms with two beds is often considered an upgrade. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there.thanskforusing Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
tan Posted May 4, 2013 Author Report Posted May 4, 2013 I am not sure what happened to Priceline this time, but after atleast 60 failed attempt, it gave me 4* Double Tree By Hilton , Financial District, 205$. I think I got a very bad deal. At this price I could have gotten a Express Deal with the 5% off coupon.I have been to this hotel last time, (also by priceline ) for 170$.The rooms are really small. Last time it was for 1 night. But now its for 4.I am little worried. Any idea how to improve the situation ? May be pay little more to the hotel and get a better room.Or should I talk to Priceline.
yellowdog Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 tanThank you for sharing your result with the board!Sorry to see that you're dissapointed with the outcome. I don't think that PRICELINE will "bail you out" in this case since they only guarantee a double occupancy which means you may receive a room with only one bed. But you can try and call them. PRICELINE is usually pretty good to deal with if you explain your problem with common sense. My advice would be to call the hotel and try to secure a room with 2 beds, even if you have to pay for an upgrade.Good luck with everything and let us know if you need any further help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
