ahujie Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Hello all!Looking for help with a bidding strategy for a 3 or 3.5* for 3 nights from Friday, May 31 - Sunday, June 2.Preferred areas are (in no order of preference) MTE, MTW, ESB, Soho, Chelsea. Am also willing to add TS, HK, MSG if needed, but would rather stay in the areas in my first list.Would like to find a place for no more than $170/night. Obviously lower is better :)Will definitely be using the PRICELINE link from this site.Thank you in advance!
thereuare Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Looking for help with a bidding strategy for a 3 or 3.5* for 3 nights from Friday, May 31 - Sunday, June 2.Checkin/Checkout dates of 5/31-6/2 is a two nite stay... is your check-out day 6/3 OR is this only a two nite stay? Also, are you willing to pay more for more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* and want to first try or a 3.5* up to your limit before lowering your star rating to 3* OR is the goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip?Preferred areas are (in no order of preference) MTE, MTW, ESB, Soho, Chelsea. Am also willing to add TS, HK, MSG if needed, but would rather stay in the areas in my first list.Did you want to bid for the first group of zones first up to your limit before including the second group of zones? Also, note that Soho is part of the larger Downtown-Soho zone and you could receive a hotel in the 'Downtown/Financial' part of the zone and not in the Soho part of the zone, is this acceptable?Let us know the information above and we'll advise accordingly... and please click each of these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links before replying.Thanks. ahujie Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks, I've clicked the links above :)Check out is 6/3, it's a 3 nite stay.I am willing to pay more for a 3.5*, but I wasn't sure or aware of how much of a price difference there usually is between 3* or 3.5*. I've spent some more time researching the hotel list on this site - I think I'd like to just stick to 3.5* now that I have a better idea of the locations, amenities and reviews on some places.Yes ideally, I would first bid on my first list of zones for 3.5*, then expand to add the next areas. No I don't want to stay in downtown/financial, so Soho is off my list
thereuare Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 So to confirm first bidding cycle attempt would be for a 3.5* or better hotel in the MTE, MTW, ESB, or Chelsea zones with a $170 maximum bid? If this is correct i would bid as follows:Select 3.5* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and Chelsea...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and MTW...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and Chelsea...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW and Chelsea...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW and ESB...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTW and MTE...Bid $150I don't expect anything above to be successful, but with a little time in your side i would try those bids first, if rejected wait 24 hours from your last failed bid and re-try, once again starting with the PRICELINE link on the board (and not a link in any email that PRICELINE may send letting you know that you're eligible to bid again):Select 3.5* MTE...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW...Bid $158, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and Chelsea...Bid $158, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and MTW...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and Chelsea...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and MTW...Bid $163, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB and MTE...Bid $163, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW and Chelsea...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and MTW and ESB...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTW...Bid $168, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTE...Bid $168, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and ESB and MTW and MTE...Bid $170Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ahujie Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Got the Club Quarters, Opposite Rockefellar Centre for $170/night. It is a 3.5*.Total for 3 nights comes to $625 (includes all taxes and fees). Was hoping to score something in the $150-160 range, but I'm satisfied overall (given the fact I'm going in summer/peak season and the hotel location is quite good). Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Definitely a nice win for this well-located property during a busy period.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
ahujie Posted May 27, 2013 Author Report Posted May 27, 2013 Hi there,I'm hoping someone in this forum can provide some advice. I emailed the Club Quarters ahead of our stay this weekend to find out what kind of beds our room would have. Since I booked for two, I assumed a king size bed or two doubles. Two doubles would be ideal as I am traveling with a friend and we'd like our own space.Unfortunately, here is the reply from Club Quarters customer service: "You have booked our smallest room type. This room has one queen bed, this is the only option for this room type. "What has your experience been in getting a king bed or two doubles? Can I ask for a free upgrade upon check in this Friday, if there is availability? Will there be a charge? Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Rooms in NYC are commonly small or very small - as small as 140-160 sq ft, even at the 3.5-4* level. King bed or two doubles (when available) is often an upgrade in the city and PRICELINE/HOTWIRE reservations are for regular/non-upgraded rooms. One can usually try to make a request and see what they say - in this case, I'm not sure they have larger than queen beds; that's what they list for all room types on Expedia.Enjoy your stay.
