rlstate Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 My son gets out from West Point on May 16 and he's asked me to come up and enjoy NYC with him. I'm looking for cheap, but decent 2-bedroom hotel in a good part of NYC. I've bid and won frequently on PL, but I'm not so picky since its just me and my son (my wife usually requires those 4* type places). Suggestions?
andremaghelly Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I have bidden a days hotel broadway for U$ 120..It is in west upper side NY in PRICELINE.com
rlstate Posted May 1, 2013 Author Report Posted May 1, 2013 I have bidden a days hotel broadway for U$ 120..It is in west upper side NY in priceline.comI passed bidding (3*) at $120 (unsuccessful) with all Manhattan areas selected a while ago. I've also bid $150 with 3* (also unsuccessful).Question to those familiar with the area, does the subway service Brooklyn? Can I get to Grand Central fairly easily via subway? I've heard crossing the Brooklyn Bridge by foot is very scenic - any feedback?
AaronJB Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 PRICELINE and HOTWIRE are for regular/non-upgraded rooms; in NYC, rooms are commonly small and sometimes tiny. A suite with two bedrooms, where available, would be a significant and probably quite costly upgrade that may not be available on a PRICELINE/HOTWIRE reservation. Or are you looking for a single room w/two beds? (which is also a risk in NYC when using PRICELINE.) What would be your desired max budget per night?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rlstate Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 I've only been looking for a 1 bedroom in NYC (though I am hoping for two beds).
thereuare Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Yes, the subway services Brooklyn but it could be a long trip depending upon where in Brooklyn you are coming from.Unfortunately at the moment rates are quite high for these dates.Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at a suitable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- and if you haven't yet, please read your messages. rlstate Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 I've now bid up to $172 without success (all but a couple of areas checked on PL - left out HK, Harlem, SoHo, Long Island, Brooklyn). Should I be looking more at HOTWIRE?
AaronJB Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 HOTWIRE is going to be more expensive but based on the information given one can guess as to which hotels may be showing.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
