Mandyxl Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I'm going to New York with some friends to do sight-seeing with kids. We are three women with four kids, age 6/7/7/10, all girls. It will be my friends' first time in New York. We are hoping to stay close to the tourist sites. Also we are women traveling with young kids. Safety will be a priority. I'm hoping to use two rooms. That means one room needs to have two beds. Is this possible?Budget wise I'd like to keep it close to 200 range with tax and fee included. Is this realistic?
AaronJB Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed. While two beds can be requested with the hotel, the chances of that being done successfully in NYC where rooms are very small (and two bed rooms often go for a premium) is unfortunately slim. HOTWIRE is a better choice, as while that does not guarantee two beds, it does allow one to indicate the amount of people in the party and should ensure some form of bedding for the entire party. Are you seeing any HOTWIRE listings of interest when searching for these dates? If so, please provide the full list of information (complete set of amenities, zone, star rating and price per night in USD$ before taxes/fees) showing with the listing.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Mandyxl Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 Thanks for the suggestion. I will go take a look at HOTWIRE.

Mandyxl Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 I checked Hotwire. There's a 3* midtown central hotel for $172. Which one would this be? Here's the info:3-star Hotel in Midtown Central Free Internet Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) High-Speed Internet Access
Mandyxl Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 Also this one I'm interested with. Price is $221.4-star Hotel in Chelsea - Madison Square Garden Free Internet Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access
Mandyxl Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 On another thought, I think Chelsea area will be good for us.I will be taking a bus to town. The bus stop is at Penn Station. If I can walk to the hotel from Penn Station that would be a big plus.
Mandyxl Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 I saw a Holiday Inn Express at Madison Square Garden. It's a 2.5* but reviews are OK. How much do you think I can get it for?
thereuare Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 As i've often told man before, don't choose a zone based upon your pickup/dropoff location better to save $30/nite to be in a nearby zone that is just as convenient ($30 x 3 nites = $90 per room) and then spend an extra $10 for a taxi upon your arrival... still $70 savings! ;)I saw a Holiday Inn Express at Madison Square Garden... How much do you think I can get it for?Where did you see this property offered and for how much? If you saw it on HOTWIRE, or intend to go the suggested/safer route of HOTWIRE since you can ensure sleeping accommodations for up to quad occupancy per room, there is no bidding on price, the price shown is the discounted price of the room. If you intend to take the occupancy risk and bid on PRICELINE, there is no way to bid for a specific hotel, you must be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. What is your game plan at this point in time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Mandyxl Posted May 5, 2013 Author Report Posted May 5, 2013 Thanks for all the advice. After discussion with my friends we decided to go for the 3 room option so there's no need for two beds rooms. So now we want to get the cheapest 3* hotel available. Please help us come up with the bidding plan.I also saw a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal at Priceline for a 4* Financial District hotel. Price is $142. It has: RestaurantBusiness CenterFitness Center Rating is 8. 0. Which hotel would this be?
Mandyxl Posted May 5, 2013 Author Report Posted May 5, 2013 I bid on 4* and won at $137. It's the Club Quarter at Financial District. It's $5 less than the Express Deal. I also bid $132 which failed.I then booked the Suite for $184 through the Express Deal. The suite should be able to accommodate 4 people. Now we are all set!
AaronJB Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Terrific deal for this CQ property during a busy period. Can you confirm that the Club Quarters is the location at 140 Washington St?Additionally, please post the Express deal purchase as a separate thread. Thanks.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
