I bid $50.00 four days ago for a room Oct. 13th-19th 2005 and it was rejected.

I bid $60.00 today for the same dates and it was rejected.

I plan to stick with the $60.00 bid until 1 week before our arrival. It seems that others have recieved 4*rooms in this area for $60, so I plan to be persistant and I hope that is the right decision.

Do hotels usually go for cheaper as you arrival dates get closer?

We are canadian and until we found this board, we were not aware we could use priceline.com

Rates do not necessarily go down as you get closer to check-in, it's all based upon supply/demand for the actual dates of your stay.

With that said, is SPLITTING YOUR BID and option?

It also appears that you are not using your RE-BID ZONES (if this is a new concept for you please ask for help and/or confirm your re-bid zones before proceeding with them)

First bid of $60 was rejected for a 4* in the riverwalk area and airport area. Re-bid of $60 for a 3* in the riverwalk area was rejected.

Rebid of $60 for a 3* in the airport area was accepted and we got Holiday Inn Select San Antonio Airport

I called the hotel to request a non-smoking room and the girl told me that there were indeed non-smoking rooms available but that she could not reserve one for us because we booked through priceline: so we are stuck with a smoking room. I suppose we are entitled to sub-par customer service because of how we choose to book our room. :)

We noticed on travel advisor that this hotel is poorly rated for customer service and I am not surprised.

We are however, satisfied with the price of our room and we are very excited to visit San Antonio for our very first time. :)

There is a good chance that if you ask again at check-in for a non-smoking room, and the hotel is not fully occupied, that your request may be honored (we see it often where a phone call gets a reply of "nothing i can do" but then at check-in it's not a problem... this doesn't always happen, but it does happen often)

If you're not happy with the room don't be afraid to talk nicely with the manager and remind them that you are a guest for 6 nites.
