NickRosie1 Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Hi all,I need a bit of help with my bidding in London. I am looking for 3 rooms at a 5 star hotel in London's Mayfair-Soho area from 25th - 30th May (I will also settle for Bloomsbury/Marble Arch). I began bidding 2 weeks ago and have tried every day since. I begin bidding at around $170 per room per night and bid right up to $225 but still have not had any luck! I've noticed others winning rooms in the same area for much less so it all seems strange. Anyway, thought I'd try get a few tips from other board members before giving up altogether!
yellowdog Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I'm sorry to say that prices for 5* are sky high for Soho so $225 don't look do-able.I looked at HOTWIRE for your dates and they have 5* $200/night in Bloomsbury. Would you be OK with that or do you want to try for 4* in the Soho zone or 5* in the Bloomsbury zone?Let us know and we'll go from therePlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.... and please click each of the links above before replying.Thanks. Romelle Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Please click those links before you check this further, but I did a little research for you.In Hotwire, the Mayfair 5* availability:25 nothing26 19227 19328 22229 230If you are willing to change hotels, the above does suggest splitting your bid might help. Hotwire and Priceline are of course totally different vendors, but when Hotwire has no availability, it is likely Priceline's availability is at least very limited (translation - EXPENSIVE) if not also zero. A similar check on your other possible areas might yield a few more clues...Romelle
NickRosie1 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 Thank you all so much for the help!Romelle, I don't mind changing hotels, as long as they're 5 star hotels and preferably in Mayfair/Soho area. The 5 star you speak of with availability from 27th to 30th May seems like it may be the Metropolitan, do you agree? (I am worried I may get the Le Meridien Picadilly which has awful reviews.)
Romelle Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I'm a member, not anybody official. But if you want the experts to give you a well-educated guess provide the details - dates, rate, star level, and full list of amenities.I don't see any reported Mayfair 5*s with a "Pet Friendly" amenity, but often the board has some extra info or other basis for the guess.Romelle
