Hello, Everyone,

I found this forum serveral days ago when I search for "hotel deals". This is an awesome forum. I followed the suggestions on hotel bid and here's my experience.

I plan to stay in San Diego for 3 days at first. A 4* hotel in La Jolla is my first priority. On 9/9 I started my bid from

$65, rejected and

added another zone with $70

...

and so on with $5 increment.

Very quickly, there were not too many choices left. I added Mission Bay which I knew there're 4* hotels. But that's fine to me. And I bid $90. It's accept. The hotel is Hilton Resort on Mission Bay. The total of three nights stay swith tax is $310. It works! I'm so excited.

Soon, I realize that I may need one more night stay in San Diego. There were two ways to do:

1. Make a phone call to Hilton and ask them for one more night extension.

2. Re-bid for one night.

I pick to re-bid. Because:

1. Bid is so fun.

2. It's not a bad idea to stay in a beach hotel.

Since it's just a one night stay, I thought it should be cheaper than 3 nights. But I was wrong.

On 9/12 I started from

$75 and picked Cornado, rejected

added $5 more and another zone, rejected

...

and so on.

When I added to $100 and got rejection again, I started to consider what my bottom line was. At that time, there were only two zones left( I don't like downtown area). I had to increase $10 to $110. I was rejected. In my last try, I gave a $125 which was my bottom line. And it was accepted. The hotel is Hyatt Islandia.

Then I found to bid one night, I still need to pay over $40 surcharge. But that's OK since it's still below my budget.

My experience:

1. Bidding is so fun.

2. Don't bid twice.

Thanks,

wwang

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Thank you for sharing your win(s) with the rest of the board.

Let's use this thread to reflect the first part of your stay and then please start a NEW TOPIC of the last nite of your stay (you can simply copy/paste the above)... this will allow us to reflect the win of each in the topic title and will enable others looking for this area to see each win just by scanning the forum titles.

When you say you added Mission Bay, did you mean Mission Valley, as Mission Bay is not a priceline zone.

You may want to ask for help before bidding for your next hotel stay as i think that you could improve upon the approach you took above.

When you needed to extend your trip by an additional day, you could have also tried to use Priceline's "Add a Nite" feature which would have ensured that, if successful, you would have been at the same property.

Enjoy your stay.

Hi, Thereuare,

I agree my bid skill needs to be improved. Though the bid is not the best, it is much better than I thought. It saved me several hundred dollars. I think I'm just too excited by this fact and will think about improve my skill next time.

BTW, I checked my priceline profile(first time user) and found the surcharge for one night stay is $22.52 and the surcharge for 3 nite is $40.82.

One more error is the area is Mission Valley not Mission Bay.

Sorry for the mistakes.

Thanks,

wwang
