Dear all,

I need to stay a night in Houston on 23/5. I want to spend about 50 USD/night and I want to be alone in room. Possible proximity to the International Airport would be an advantage. What do you suggest? Can I find something fot this price, maybe something cheaper?

Best regards,

You budget for a hotel in the airport zone is no problem for this dates.

Are you familiar with HOTWIRE and PRICELINE ? if not, please read this link to start with: I've never used Priceline or Hotwire

HOTWIRE got 2* for $43 with breakfast and a 2.5* priced $56 W/breakfast. You try to undercut the prices with PRICELINE

Let us know what you think and we'll go from there.

Dear yellowdog,

thank you very much for your response. I'm happy to read that. If this is the case I think that we can try to cut the prices even more. All I need is just a bed in a hotel room in an area that is not that far away from the airport (but this isn't also the problem if it's not the closest proximity to the airport as I'll have a rental car). My suggestion is to try to cut the price of the hotel. Breakfast is an advantage but it's not that important. We may try to find something 30+ USD.

I'm familiar with Pirceline.com as a website but I don't think that I truly understand the mechanism of self bidding. I'll read your link then.

I rarely say this, but take my advice and go with the 2* $43 HOTWIRE hotel. It's top rated with a 4.5/5 and former guests rate this 95%/100% the only thing that is better for $43 is that you're in America ;)

My guess for the hotel would be Super 8 IAH Greenspoint. The reviews for the hotel indicates that they offer a shuttle to the airport and we know that they offer free breafast. In this case can you leave your rental car the day before your flight and save some money on this.

You can try to get a cheaper hotel but in this case will it cost you more in the long run (even if not the Super 8 IAH Greenspoint). You might save $5-$10 on PRICELINE but bidding 2.5*/2* in an airport zone is a bit of a gamble and you can hit a seedy property.

Let us know if you want to go the PRICELINE route and we'll help you with that.

I'll take your advice and I'll go with the hotel suggested by you on hotwire. Is 43 USD total charge (VAT included, some other charges)? What should I do now? Should I complete registration by myself or provide you with some data?

Thank you very much for help!

First you need to register an account on HOTWIRE. Tax and fee's are not included in the price. You'll see the total amount before you book the hotel.

Then search HOTWIRE for Houston and there's a zone called Aldine - Bush Ictl Airport IAH area

The 2* hotel is listed with: Free Breakfast, High-Speed Internet Access $43

Please note that I don't know the name and the Super 8 IAH Greenspoint hotel name is my guess. But facts remain about ratings and amenities even if it's a diffrent hotel.

Thanx for using boards HOTWIRE link :)

Just let us know if you need any further help with your booking.

Yellowdog thank you for your help. I was rather thinking about bidding myself rather than taking hotel's offer. I'm interested what price they can accept and when it's best time to bid (in advance or at the last minute). I also checked wins reports at your website. Do you think that I can bid some better price than that in similar hotel in similar location?

It becomes a matter of price vs quality. If the HOTWIRE is $43 and gets good reviews, maybe you can get a similar hotel in the $34-38 range, but it may not get very good ratings - at the 2* level in terms of airport hotels, quality can really vary pretty tremendously.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thank you for your help. I thnk I'm going to find some hotel for about 45 USD with free cancellation and try to bid something better. Do you think that it may work?
