Trina Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I will be going on a business trip to Maddison, NJ and afterwards, I'd like to spend the weekend in New York. (I've never been and am EXTREMELY excited to visit the city)My husband will also be going, and we'd like to try (if at all possible) to get a good deal for airfare and hotel. We will be flying in on a Wednesday, but wouldn't need a NYC hotel until Friday.Do you know if this is possible to do (days different) on priceline? Also, we have no ideas on what hotels are like in NYC (although extremely expensive), and would like to get a nice clean hotel room. Nothing fancy as we don't have alot of extra money, just something that isn't in a bad area, and is clean.Would anyone know a * rating to suggest and bid amount somewhere in the Manhattan area or close(w/private bath) ?Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!Clueless in Tx,Trina
thereuare Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! With priceline (and hotwire) "packages" you cannot get a hotel for only a portion of your stay. What is your approximate budget? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Trina Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 I don't really have a 'budget' yet. I'm not sure how much I should allow since NYC is so much more expensive than TX.The main focus is trying to get a good deal on a hotel that is clean, but not expensive. I have no idea on how much to bid.Trina
thereuare Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Based upon current rates, as a ballpark (don't bid this amounts just yet, wait for a suggested strategy) i would think you're probably looking at about $250/nite for a 4* hotel, somewhere around $200 for a 3*.Are these amounts in-line with what you were expecting? Are they do-able or do you want to try to consider other options? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Trina Posted September 15, 2005 Author Report Posted September 15, 2005 I am thinking under $100. That probably sounds crazy to you, but here in Houston, that's a 4* hotel on a weekend at normal price. These are the prices that I have found at various different place like cheaptickets.com/Expedia/Orbitz, etc.I have no idea of how these hotels are though. Dirty or in a bad area, etc.Hotel 31 $85 - 1*Belnord $138 - 2*Chelsea Star $119 - 1*Pickwick Arms $129 - 1*Beekman Tower $159 - 3*Portland Square $165 - 1*Cosmopolitan $169 - 3*Club Quarters $169 - 3*Herald Square $149Mount Royal $147 - 1*I am really hoping to get a good deal so that we will have some extra money to see some of the sites of New York. The only reason that we have enough money to even come to NY, is because I have a business trip to NJ, and the company is paying for my flight. We have two children that are still in diapers, so it's tight. This will be our first time away since we got married. :)
thereuare Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Please not that via our SUPPORT PAGE we are affiliates of all of the above booking agencies you mentioned above, please use our links if you choose to book thru one of those sources (or any of the others that are offered on our support page). The Hotel 31 has some rooms with shared baths... i assume that's not what you're seeking, but make sure you know if the rate you quote above is for a shared or private bath.Where specifically did the above rates come from? For example, the Beekman for your dates appears to be sold-out thru CheapTickets, sold-out thru Orbitz, and $331 thru Expedia... where do you see it for $159? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Trina Posted September 16, 2005 Author Report Posted September 16, 2005 I'll be sure to use the links. The prices quoted were from cheaptickets.com from Sunday evening.Out of the different travel places that I searched, they had the best prices & hotels available listed overall. As far as Sunday, the Beekman was sold out at Travelocity, Orbitz, and Expedia.I looked, and you are right, Beekman Tower is now not available for booking for the dates that I need.I guess they book up pretty quick.I'm looking to book within the next two weeks, as priceline debits your account as soon as the bid is approved. We had to purchase the tickets for the flight today, so we're waiting until next paycheck to bid for a hotel. Hopefully that won't be too late.Trina
