AaronJB Posted April 20, 2013 Report Posted April 20, 2013 What would be your desired max bid for the night? Any listings of interest on HOTWIRE?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
cpaul418 Posted April 20, 2013 Author Report Posted April 20, 2013 I would like to stay under 100. Preferably around 80. I would consider Hotwire.
yellowdog Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 cpaul418If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post the zone(s) you're willing to stay in and your preferred star rating for the hotel.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
thereuare Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 What looks to be the The Tremont House is offered on HOTWIRE for $98/nite... if correct it's a decent, if not huge, discount vs. booking direct, but the advantage is that it's very well reviewed with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating. Is this offer of interest OR do you prefer to bid on PRICELINE? If the latter, do you want to only bid the East zone or are other zones acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cpaul418 Posted April 21, 2013 Author Report Posted April 21, 2013 East or west works. Preferably east
thereuare Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 East or west works. Preferably eastAre you willing to pay more to stay in the East zone vs. the West zone OR is the goal the least expensive 4* or better in either zone? Please click each of the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links before replying.Thanks. cpaul418 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Report Posted April 22, 2013 My main goal is to keep it under 100 a night. I would highly prefer to be on the East zone.

cpaul418 Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 I am looking at East Beach (would love to go to San Luis on the West Beach). I see the Tremont House, but I am not really impressed with the price savings. I would love to stay at the Galvez. I would like to stay above 4*. I want to keep it under 100 a night. I see Hotwire has my best guess, Tremont House, for $95.00 today. Only save $30 bucks. I may decide to book last minute since it is only 1 day. Would that be too risky?
thereuare Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 I may decide to book last minute since it is only 1 day. Would that be too risky? It depends upon flexible you are in your plans and how many re-bid zones you have to be able to bid again should your first bid(s) fail.I also don't recommend waiting until the very last minute since if your bids fail you then usually need to scramble to figure out what to do, rather than be able to try again over the next few days. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cpaul418 Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 Will it help me get a better deal tho?
thereuare Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Nobody can say as it's a function of supply and demand (ie- how many expected reservations and cancellations the hotel gets between now and your stay vs. how many actual reservations and cancellations they get between now and your stay). The hotel could be half full (or half empty) at this point in time and willing to offer deep discounts in order to fill them... in 3 weeks the hotel could have had a lot of success with their discount, or booked a group which takes a large number of rooms, etc, and therefore has little or no need to discount heavily (or at all). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cpaul418 Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 All,On PRICELINE, I notice that there is a 4 star selection for West Beach....However, your cheat sheet shows it only going up to 3.5 stars... Is this because of lack of bidding information? I would love it to be the Moody Gardens Hotel Spa & Convention Center. Any help IDing this?Priceline says:Indoor or Outdoor Pool.Fitness CenterFree ParkingFree InternetBusiness Center9+ Guest ReviewAny help would be appreciate? Would like to start bidding on it soon....lowball, maybe they will eventually crack.
thereuare Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List. The San Luis Resort and Spa would be at least one possibility at the 4* level, but there could be others as well. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. cpaul418 Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 At this point, I am looking to save some greenbacks. I figure HOTWIRE is there if needed at $95. I would love to snag a one night for $65-70 at 4* either beach I guess.
thereuare Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Based upon your previous replies i'm guessing the two zones you're referring to are Galveston East-Harbor and West Beach-Moody Gardens? When bidding 4* in the Galveston region you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Galveston East-Harbor and West Beach-Moody Gardens...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. cpaul418 Posted April 26, 2013 Author Report Posted April 26, 2013 Nothing. All rejected. If HOTWIRE is at $98 bucks for possibly Tremont house... I am not sure where it will crack at on PRICELINE.......Its our last stop so I am not concerned honestly about booking it right away.... Maybe wait it out and get a good deal.
cpaul418 Posted April 26, 2013 Author Report Posted April 26, 2013 After looking, it seems that Galveston is around that price all the time. I see that Cinco De Mayo weekend the Hotwire for a 4* is 130/night. Maybe $95 is the best I can get?Chris
thereuare Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 ...it seems that Galveston is around that price all the time. Not sure what price it is that you're referring to here, but rates are always date specific. A hotel may usually have their rates (both 'retail' and 'opaque') at a certain price, but on any given date rates can be substantially higher based upon seasonal factors, events/conferences in the area or at the hotel specifically, a large group booking at the hotel, etc, etc.Use our BiddingHelper.com and/or MAPS and HOTELS.com for an overview of prices for your specific dates (the latter does a good job, imo, of presenting the data visually and knowing exactly how much for what star rating and the advantages of going up/down in star rating or further/closer to your desired location)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cpaul418 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 Still no bites.....60,65,70,73,76,79.... Still have time however and HOTWIRE is always available for $95.

cpaul418 Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 Even went up to $88 dollars in the East or West.
AaronJB Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I'd try $90 and then $93 and if that doesn't work, go with the HOTWIRE listing.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
