HSVKai Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 Hey guys,my name is Kai from Germany and looking forward for a stay in NYC in July / August for a honeymoon trip. This will be the first time I book via bidding on priceline.I'd like to stay in Soho from July 30th to August 4th.Can you provide me "tipps" for a bidding price that might get accepted by a 4* hotel at that place in this time? Are there experiences around? Thanks a lot for your help!
thereuare Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! Two comments to begin:1) Soho is not necessarily the most central location for the average visitor to the city, and most prefer to stay in the midtown area. You know your plans and needs better than we do so perhaps you have reason/desire to stay in this particular area, but wanted to make sure you have done your homework first on the best zone(s) for your needs2) look at PRICELINE's map of this zone as it does cover a little more than just 'Soho', while not too large geographically, please ensure that you're comfortable with a hotel anywhere in this zone (and not just the Soho location within the zone)What is your expected budget per nite before taxes/fees?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
HSVKai Posted April 19, 2013 Author Report Posted April 19, 2013 Thanks for your reply - Midtown is very good as well but I like the athmosphere in SoHo a lot. My expectation is about 150-170usd plus taxes per night. Does it sound realistic? On the other hand, we are on Honeymoon - so a good hotel for a good value would be great too..
thereuare Posted April 20, 2013 Report Posted April 20, 2013 We will begin trying for a 4* in Soho up to $170 if that is rejected you can then decide if want bid higher, lower your star rating for only Soho, or include other zone(s).When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Soho...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try:Select 4* Soho...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try:Select 4* Soho...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try:Select 4* Soho...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $168, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170Any questions feel free to ask. HSVKai Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks for your advice and help. Unfortunately, for USD 170 it did not work - the hotels seem to ask for a higher bid.
AaronJB Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 This is (at least traditionally) not one of the busier times in the city. I'd wait a 3-5 days and try again starting at $120 and working up to $170 as noted above. I'd keep $170 as the "ceiling" for the time being, and if a month or two goes by without being accepted, then you can consider going higher or alternatives.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
