elainayam Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Hi there,First time user here!I am using Priceline's NYOP for the first time, looking for a 4* in any of these areas: Midtown East, Soho-Tribeca, and Central Park South for 6/3-6/7. I think my max bid would be $200. Any suggestions on strategy? Thanks!Elaine
thereuare Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Soho...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and Soho...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and Soho and CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170While i think the above will likely fall short for these zones, with some time on your side i would start here and if rejected we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.Any questions feel free to ask (especially regarding re-bidding and confirming your re-bid zones with the board). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. elainayam Posted May 6, 2013 Author Report Posted May 6, 2013 OK, so question on re-bid zones...I find most zones have 4* hotels. Should I be choosing 3* zones such as Morningside Heights? (I think that is the only rebid zone with 3* and less).Am I approaching this incorrectly? Thanks,Elaine
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 That is one of your two re-bid zones... see if you can determine the other, if not, try the following:Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. elainayam Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 re: 4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereyep found the other rebid zone: LIC
thereuare Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Yes, that is correct but always confirm your re-bid zones before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last looked.Let us know how the bidding goes and we'll take it from there. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. elainayam Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 Just tried bidding using the above strategy, it failed :(Any other suggestions? I am now willing to go up to $200.Although I was checking on Hotwire this morning and there is a secret hot rate deal for a 3* in the soho/downtown/financial area for $204. Would you happen to know which hotel it would be?If priceline doesn't work out for me, I just might go for this Hotwire deal :D
thereuare Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 You can re-try 24 hours after your last rejected bid, once again starting with a PRICELINE link on the board (and not any links in any email PRICELINE may send you informing you that you're eligible to bid again):Select 4* MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Soho...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and Soho...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and CPS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and Soho and CPS...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask.For help with a HOTWIRE offer we will need to know the room rate per nite and the amenities associated with the property... but if the above is rejected why not first try bidding 3.5* and/or 3* before taking the HOTWIRE offer? (assuming there is no particular amenity with the HOTWIRE offer (such as a pool or free breakfast) that you need for this stay). Also, keep in mind the HOTWIRE offer can disappear at any time (or the price could go up and be out of your reach) so please only ask for help with that ID if/when you're ready to commit to it as it saves us time researching a hotel today that may not be offered a few days from now once you're actually ready to purchase it.Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck with the next round of bidding and let us know how you make out. elainayam Posted May 10, 2013 Author Report Posted May 10, 2013 Yup, the new strategy failed again. I was browsing through Hotwire again and saw there was a deal for 3* hotel in the Downtown/Soho/Financial area for $198 a night, and decided to go for it. (FYI I did use the HOTWIRE link provided below). The hotel is:Holiday Inn New York City - Manhattan EastI'm super excited as this will be my first time staying in LES! Plus this is a brand new hotel that's just been opened recently, and is getting alot of good reviews on tripadvisor. Thanks for all the help and guidance!
