Priceline Hotel: 4* - How far out before starting to bid?

Hi everyone,

I am traveling to NYC on 5/20 - 5/23 looking for a 4* (or at least 3.5*).

I am looking at Midtown East and Central Park South

I started at 150, 160 and 170 with no luck.

Am I bidding too early? Is there a rule where hotels will know more of their availability closer to the date, so it will be cheaper closer to the travel date?

Thanks everyone!

This is a busy period in NYC - nicer weather, baseball, possibly graduations and other events. It's not too early to bid, and waiting until the last minute definitely does not always work, especially during traditionally busy periods.
