margie1983us Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Not sure if this is where I need to post. Here Goes.I have already bid thru priceline on a 4 star hotel in Downtown Ft Lauderdale. Bid $60 rejected added Mirimar(? Spelling) $65 rejectedAdded all the free re-bids up to $90 All still rejectedMy understanding is that I cannot bid for 72 hours, Right?I would like a 4 star but very willing to take a 3 star Hotel. At what price can I get accepted? For either (3 or 4 star)Really would like downtown. Need to be able to walk to store before cruiseBy the way, this is a wonderful site, so nice to posters. I looked at other sites that help but I was to afraid to ask for help. So I learned some strategy on bidding but not enough (got rejected) :)
thereuare Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!February is a long ways off and it may just be too early to have success at the 4* level (or the 3* level for that matter) as there just may not be any deeply discounted rates loaded into the 'opaque' system. If you'd like to try for a 3* we can certainly help and suggest a bidding strategy, but i don't know if you'd rather not resort to lowering your star rating this far ahead of your stay or not OR if you're just more concerned with having your plans finalized?Let us know your thoughts and we'll suggest a strategy to take, as i also wouldn't have bid as high as you have already. margie1983us Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 It is just that. I am just wanting to have my plans finalized. But I am willing to wait a while. I have a cancelable reservation at the Holiday Inn, and Yes I am willing to go to a 3*. I really want to stay near 17th street and my understanding is most downtown hotels are in that area. Any ideas you have for me would be great. Thanks for the wonderful site!
thereuare Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 I am just wanting to have my plans finalized. But I am willing to wait a while. This is a bit of a contradiction and doesn't really let us know how to best advise based upon your preferences of lowering your star rating vs. trying longer at the 4* level. margie1983us Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 I am willing to do what ever you think I should to get a room at a good rate in Downtown Ft Laud. If you feel I should wait, thats ok. If you feel I can change my * level and go ahead and bid now, that's what I will do. I have a room reserved already, but the price is pretty high. Would like to stay around $100 if that's at all possible. Thanks so much.
thereuare Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 I would wiat at least a month... rates currently are a little higher than typical, but a lot can happen between now and February. One 'problem' is that there just aren't a lot of hotels in this area at the 4* level (nor at the 3* level) offered thru the opaque services, so there is just not a large selection of properties to have loaded rates into the opaque system.Bump this thread in a month and we'll take another look at current rates. margie1983us Posted September 11, 2005 Author Report Posted September 11, 2005 Thanks so much! I will check with you in a month!!!
margie1983us Posted October 23, 2005 Author Report Posted October 23, 2005 Still needing a room FLL for 2/11 one night, downtown. Do you think it's time to try again?
thereuare Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 I would try but still think you're chances of success are low.Have you booked a back-up hotel yet?You can also take a look at Cruise Hotel Maps to see how far the hotels are from the pier. margie1983us Posted October 23, 2005 Author Report Posted October 23, 2005 We do have a back up hotel booked but we would like to get something cheaper. I think we need the downtown area. We will need to be within walking distance to a grocery store and a resturaunt the night we arrive.
thereuare Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Where and how much is your back-up? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
margie1983us Posted November 12, 2005 Author Report Posted November 12, 2005 Is anyone hitting deals thru priceline in Ft Lauderdale? Need one room for Feb 11 Downtown FLL $100 or less if possible.
thereuare Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 What bids/star levels have you tried most recently (if at all?)Have you since bid higher than $60? Has this only been for 4* or have you also tried at the 3* level?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. margie1983us Posted November 12, 2005 Author Report Posted November 12, 2005 yes a several weeks ago I did try to bid on a 3 star started at 60 and added all free rebids and $5 each bid and still nothing. I would like a 4 star but price is more important than rating. I need downtown because I need to be within walking distance to a grocery store. I do have a back up hotel.
thereuare Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 So your top bid so far has been $70? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
margie1983us Posted November 13, 2005 Author Report Posted November 13, 2005 I believe it was $75. But it has been several weeks since I tried. I was going to wait the 3 days and then try again but just never got around to it.
thereuare Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Rates have increased since this thread was started.I would start bidding up towards your maximum ($100), especially given the much higher price of your back-up reservation. I wouldn't be bidding more than that at this time as you still have 3 months before your stay, but a sub-$100 win would be a good given current prices for this date.
