jordanlkroeker Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 Please Help!I am new to hotwire and am a little scared to use it for the first time. My wife and I are planning a trip to Vegas and we want to stay somewhere nice. Below are the amenities. I am concerned that it doesn't specify non-smoking, is there a way to make sure I get a non-smoking room? Or to know if the hotel has any smoking rooms in it? I have also heard of people booking with hotwire and the hotel filling up. They had no place to stay when they have there and had to book another hotel last minute. Does this happen frequently? I was also hoping someone could let me know what hotel this probably is. Thanks!Resort Suite. yellowdog Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding :) Best guess would be Venetian or Palazzo. I can't favor any of the hotels for the moment so you need to have an open mind for both when booking this.I have also heard of people booking with hotwire and the hotel filling up. They had no place to stay when they have there and had to book another hotel last minute. Does this happen frequently? It's called being "walked". And No, it don't happen frequently, but it happens. And this could also happen when you book a room in a "traditional" way. It's nothing you should worry about. Please use the board’s HOTWIRE link, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.PS. Please remember follow-up this thread with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancel your trip, etc.
jordanlkroeker Posted April 9, 2013 Author Report Posted April 9, 2013 A follow up question is what does hotwire do (if anything) if the hotel ends up being full? Do you get refunded the money you pay initially? Does the hotel that you booked with ever help you find new hotels in the area? Thanks,As for what we are doing right now it has come down to me trying to convince my wife this is a good idea. She is still quite nervous about it. I will post the final decision when we have it!
AaronJB Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 Hotels being filled and guests having to be walked is not a common occurrence but it happens - it does happen with both PRICELINE/HOTWIRE and regular guests. Compensation varies, but often the first night is free. You should be walked to a comparable hotel within a reasonable distance and given transit fare if that's a factor. That is not something I'd worry about though in general, but also because this rate would not indicate that it's a busy period in Vegas.Additionally in terms of currency, Please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
