Hotwire Hotel: Chicago trip

I'm new to PL and am looking to book a two night stay in Chicago preferably downtown but am trying to get a good price on a 4* or better hotel. Not sure what strategy to use please help.

I have a similar question. Used PL a few times, but not very familiar with it.

Going to Chicago from Aug 2-5, 2013 and was wondering if I'd have more luck booking closer to the date. Seems like the zone and ratings i'm looking at (tourist areas) are around $200+ on HW. Would PL provide better prices closer to the date.

I believe those are the date/s for Lollapalooza this year, which (unfortunately, given the effect on rates) is one of the tougher hotel periods of the year.
