Sytse Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Hi I have been to NYC a couple of times and often ended up lucky with my hotel bids on Priceline. Last time however I ended up in the Alex hotel, an experience I don't want to happen again. Our best stays have been the Grand Hyatt and the Westin TSq, so I would like to ask what the best bidding strategy could be for our stay from May 5th-May 8th. We usually end up with rooms at $130 a night max (without tax) so if possible that would be my limit. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
AaronJB Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding.Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your prior stay at the Alex (sharing the Alex win as a separate thread would be greatly appreciated.)There is no way to bid for a particular property. If you bid for a 4* in MTE (to use an example), you have to be willing to stay at ANY 4* in the zone or zone/s selected.HOTWIRE is a better choice, as you can make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing based on information given. However, one hotel shows at each star rating in each zone and it may not be the one you are hoping for. Both services really require flexibility as a trade-off for the discount. This is unfortunately the busy Spring season and $130 is not going to be enough for a 4* - I think you're probably looking at around $185-215 for a 4* Manhattan, depending on zone.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
Beefdrippings Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 This must be the most expensive week I've ever tried to bid.I'm bidding May6-10 and my bids of $195 are getting rejected.Keep us postedcause I'd love to know how successful you are.
Sytse Posted April 17, 2013 Author Report Posted April 17, 2013 I found a 4* mid town east hotel for $133 which sounds like a great price for May 5th-May 6th with the following ammenities. Would it be possible to help me identify this hotel? Mid Town East 4* ID needed This Hotel features the following amenities:Fitness Center, Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary.Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.Accessible for the blind Braille or raised signageAccessible for the deaf TTY for telephone, visual or flashing fire alarm and vibrating alarm clockAccessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible path from the room entrance to the window, the bed and the bathroom; accessible hardware and minimal resistance to open the door; accessible temperature controls and window coveringsAccessible bathroom Raised toilet, hand-held shower and grab bars at the tub and toiletRoll-in shower Bathroom has a roll-in shower and a 70% approval rate for tripadvisorLooking at other posts I have the feeling that there is a big chance that this is the Intercontinental Barclay or the Marriot East side.
AaronJB Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Is this a change from your prior Hotwire NYC thread or are you splitting your stay? With the above listing, If you go back to HOTWIRE and click the red SHOW ME button next to this offer (the one with the price in it), then on the ensuing page click the 'See all' link under the amenities, do you see more than what you've posted above? (additionally, please post amenities w/o descriptions.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
