paulmadejong Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Hi All,I already have my plane tickets to NYC for June 7 till June 17th and am now looking for a low budget accomodation. I figured I'd first like to try priceline.com and if this fails will check We'd like to stay in Manhattan (>3* preferably) and the exact area is not much of a problem as long as it's close to a subway. We'd prefer not to stay in FD due to its location and `businessfeel'.Any tips on how to get something for such a low price? Or am I insane to think that we can get a room for that price? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. One issue with PRICELINE bidding and NYC is that once you start to get below 2.5*, quality varies significantly. You may end up with something you are happy with, you may end up with something that you are definitely not happy with. The second issue, unfortunately - is price. NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the US in terms of hotels, and the only "slow" period is January to around the middle of March. Early-to-mid June is a busier period with nicer weather, baseball games and other events. $65 is definitely not going to be enough for a 3* - I think at the 3* level you're probably looking at $140-160 depending on zone for Midtown. In terms of lower star ratings, I think you MAY be able to get something at around the 2* level for $85-100 (although probably more towards $100), but again, once you get under 2.5*, quality really starts to vary significantly.Additionally, longer stays may run into problems in terms of getting a deal from one hotel for the entire stay.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
