Changes are Coming!!

We're pleased to announce that we have started the steps to move to our own server.

GOOD NEWS:

-we will have more control over alloating the board's resources. What this means is that we will be able to sub-divide categories/states as many users have requested

-no need to be concerned about other sites that are on the server affecting the board's performance or speed in delivery of pages

-plenty of room to grow

-flexibility to move forward... we have a few major ideas for the board which we will begin to look into and/or implement a few months down the road (as our time permits)

BAD NEWS:

-this drastically increases the cost of running the board... we hope that we will continue to garner more support from our users

-this involves an entirely new interface for us to learn, so there will be a learning curve and at this point we're not sure how steep it will be, but we expect there to be a near-term toll on our time (which is already stretched pretty thin)

The new server is set-up and we're currently testing a dupliate copy of the board to make sure that everything works as it should. We will make the 'final move' within a week or so at which point i antincipate there will be about an hour or so of downtime for the board... but we'll make an anouncement before we make any such move.

I look forward to the board's future and thank everyone who helps make this site possible.

I hope Better Bidding continues to grow and expand. It is a wonderful resource that I use often. Keep up the good work and thanks for your efforts.

Assuming our day goes well (a big assumption :) ) we will attempt to move the board to the new server some time this evening, Friday 9/9/05 (8pm-12am EST?).

Immediately prior to the move, we will close the board to new posts, replies, and member registration... users can still view/browse the board.

The board will look exactly the same on the new server, but the "Board Will Become Read-Only" above will not appear (maybe we'll add a "you've reached the new server" message at the new board.

Hopefully all will go smoothly, as we have been working hard over the last few days to ensure that all the links/features continue to work as they should, although i suspect there will likely be a few unforseen broken links that arise.

Transition is now complete... few bumps along the way but that is to be expected.

We have fixed any broken links that we had found and, as far as we know, everything is now working as it should. If you encounter any broken links or any of our tools don't work, please let us know via email/PM (please let us know the link that doesn't work and the page on which it appears).

Page loads and the speed of the board should continue to be excellent, but if anyone encounters any issues/problems please let us know.
