AaronJB Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Additionally, it depends on what your plans are, but did you want to stay in the Loop? There are areas of the Loop that can be pretty quiet later in the evening. Prices for Mag Mile hotels are really not much higher than Loop listings.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jamzmom Posted April 2, 2013 Author Report Posted April 2, 2013 This is a new thread. I have been tossing around taking my kids to Chicago for a couple days in Spring Break so I have not booked. We have been working around some doctors appointments so it looks like we may be able to go after all. So, I have nothing to post about an old thread. These are for the same dates April 3-5. We did use this forum for a stay back in February. I will make sure I update that. Thanks. Please provide a follow-up for your prior Hotwire Chicago thread (post in that thread what you decided for that stay), then reply to this thread and we'll be happy to look into the above. Also, is this request just new dates for your prior Hotwire Chicago post?Yellowdog. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS. jamzmom Posted April 2, 2013 Author Report Posted April 2, 2013 I guess I would rather stay where I can walk around with my kids in the evening (ages, 7,10,13). We don't have a lot of extra money to do things there. I was thinking the Zoo and the Aquarium (basic admission). If you think of anything else, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!!Additionally, it depends on what your plans are, but did you want to stay in the Loop? There are areas of the Loop that can be pretty quiet later in the evening. AaronJB Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 The Aquarium is worth seeing if you haven't although it has really gotten to the point where it's expensive for what it is. It really depends on how much of the Aquarium you want to see (there are several different admission levels, when I was a kid not that long ago I think it was free to see the basic aquarium - how things have changed over the years), but while a membership for a household is expensive, if you plan on coming to the Shedd another once or twice over the next year, it may be worth considering. The Loop 4* has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but my guess is that it's maybe the Hilton Towers. I also see what appears to be the Sheraton for $96 and if you want to try something entirely different, I see an unidentified property in Lincoln Park for $89 that may be the Willows. IF it is the Willows, that would put you close to Lincoln Park Zoo and in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, but it would be a trek downtown.Let us know if the Sheraton or possible Willows would be of interest and we would be happy to point out those listings on HOTWIRE.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jamzmom Posted April 2, 2013 Author Report Posted April 2, 2013 Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. We are just looking for a few fun things to do while we are there. It is just a quick trip for us to get out of our house for 2 days during spring break. I just thought of the Aquarium because it was one of the "cheaper" museums. If you have any other ideas, I would be open to them as well. I am interested in all ideas so if the Sheraton is more in the "action" of downtown, I would love to hear about it. Although, I love the Lincoln Park idea, myself, I think the kids will enjoy more of the lights and high buildings, etc of the downtown area. Again, I am open to any ideas that you might have and I truly appreciate your help! The Aquarium is worth seeing if you haven't although it has really gotten to the point where it's expensive for what it is. AaronJB Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 The Museum of Science and Industry is a great deal of fun for kids (and adults), but the issue with it is that it's a pain to get there - it's a pretty significant trek South of downtown. You can get there on the train, but it's not like the Shedd/Field, which you can walk to (especially on a nice day, it's a beautiful walk along the lake.)The Lincoln Park Zoo is terrific (and terrifically free), but I'll also suggest the Peggy Notabert Nature Museum - that's across the road on Fullerton (can't miss it - rather beautiful, sleek glass building.) That does charge admission, but does offer a beautiful live butterfly exhibit. It's not the world's best, but a good value suggestion is Flat Top Grill - there are locations downtown and not far from LP zoo - this is a "Create Your Own Stir Fry" chain where if you choose to, you can go back again and again for one price.I'm seeing this 4* in the Mag Mile-River North area for $96, which has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but my guess would be a new amenity set for the Sheraton.Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jamzmom Posted April 2, 2013 Author Report Posted April 2, 2013 Thanks so much for the info. So you would recommend staying on Michigan Ave than the Millenium Park area with kids?? I see what you are saying for the amenity set. When I searched, it states $99 not your $96 but still has the same amenity set. AaronJB Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 The price you see may vary slightly. Personally, if you are going to be staying out later at night, I tend to recommend the Michigan Ave area (Mag Mile-River North, Mag Mile-N Water Tower, Gold Coast) over the Loop area. The Loop area can be pretty quiet in the evening - especially S and W Loop. The price you see may vary by a few bucks per night in general.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
