jennygerbi Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 What a great site! Many thanks!! This is my first time on the site and useing Priceline. I am the travel agent of our family so I had a lot to learn and really got into it.I tried everything today to find an alternative to a friend's wedding hotel (bethesda Hyatt Regency, which is expensive and did not get good reviews on tripadvisor). We had a reservation at a relatively crappy place up the road, but I wanted to see what I could do. Since we are driving in from IL, staying a little ways away from the actual area is fine. We also had to pay for parking (at the relatively crappy place- clarion bethesda- which charges 11 for parking, and I got an internet rate of 80 for the room.)I looked at about a bazillion combinations under priceline, (bethesda area plus various DC areas) with the tricks for free rechecks, and never found anything. I also tried hotwire. I finally decided to look a little farther out into Gaithersburg on priceline. Bingo!I'm extremely happy that I ended up at the Mariott for 51/night, which was my first offer!! They say it's a 3 star hotel, but the reviews under tripadvisor are *excellent* and it lists it as a 4 star. Free parking, and it looks like it is in a really nice place with jogging trails, etc. A 20 minute drive to the wedding- no problem! I'd suggest this as an alternative to DC hotels for those with flexibility, and they do have a shuttle to the metro until 8pm 7 days a week. Perhaps I will re-post this in the DC thread, since there are Bethesda hotels listed there...? I'm so happy! I"ll write up a review of the hotel (and the travel into DC) when I return from the trip.
