sfp Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Hello,I'm looking to bid on four rooms in Chicago on May 17-19th (two nights). My budget is under $100 a night, and ideally the hotel would be in the loop or Michigan Ave area. Based on some other posts, it looks like a 4* or even a 3.5* is not going to be likely for this period. I'd be willing to move to another neighborhood, just not sure where to look. Any advice would be much appreciated.Thanks.
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 The issue with these dates is the NRA (National Restaurant Association) show, which is really one of the biggest (if not the biggest - I believe something like 60,000 in attendance) conventions of the year. The problem with Chicago is that there's essentially the Loop and Michigan Ave areas. If there's a convention those areas fill up quickly and then there's spillover to outlying areas - and once you get out of downtown, there's really nothing much until you get further out into the suburbs. The Lincoln Park area in Chicago is really the only main neighborhood, but there's only a few hotels in that area and as such, there's rarely any good deals. $100 is unfortunately definitely not going to be possible downtown for these dates, but under $60 (probably around $50 for a 3.5*) is quite possible in the suburbs. The only problem with that is it's really only doable if you're driving and it's about 35-45 minutes out by train. Downtown you're probably looking at 3x that - $175/180+ per night for these dates (and quite possibly a bit higher)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
