Canongirl Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Hello, I am new to Betterbidding, in my reading to find a better price on a hotel I came across several who said this site is helpful. I am traveling to NYC Apr 25 - 28. I found a hotel in the Financial Dist that is beautiful, $269 per night, but would like to keep the cost down as much as possible. I have never used PL or Hotwire. It is a 5 star hotel, would this hotel be on either site or does anyone know of anything comparable? How low should I go on bidding on something like this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Canongirl
AaronJB Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. So that we can be able to compare and research, please provide the name of the hotel you are looking at. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay, as well as which zone/s would be acceptable? Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Canongirl Posted April 3, 2013 Author Report Posted April 3, 2013 Thank you for your reply, I am new so it took me a while to find it. I was looking at the Conrad NY in the Financial District but I don't think you can bid on it or get a lower price it is listed at $269. The Doubletree Financial District is a 4 star and on Priceline for $201. I would love to stay in the time square area but I think cost would be less elsewhere. The Financial District is only a 10 min ride into TS area so this area is good, my desired budget is $150 (or less) but willing to go MAX $200. Thanks in advance for your help.
Canongirl Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 I tried to bid today on Priceline, the dates are Apr 25-28. The zones were Downtown/Soho/Financial Dist, Midtown West, Time Square, Chelsea. The stars were 4. I started the bid at $135 and was still rejected at $150. Willing to go to $200 but I now have to wait 24 hrs. Please help.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 While $150 is likely not enough for the dates above have you also considered MTE, MSG and/or ESB which are also popular zones and frequently bid? Also, are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? If not see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board (highly recommended) before bidding (NOTE: currently you have TWO re-bid zones at the 4* level in NYC)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Canongirl Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 Ok, I will add MTE and MSG. How much should I now bid?
thereuare Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 So to confirm your acceptable zones are DT, MTW, TS, Chelsea, MTE and MSG.When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. Canongirl Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 Thank you so much for this, I have followed this to the letter and I am to the $178 bid nothing has been accepted and am being told I have already entered this before. Am I doing this correctly?
thereuare Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Yes, you probably made a mistake somewhere earlier since this should be the first time your bidding with 5 zones. As we dont' know what bids you previously made (since they deviated somehow from the posted strategy) i would make the following bids now if you can:Select 4* DT, MTW, TS, Chelsea, MTE, MSG...Bid $178, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $183If this is rejected we'll revise the entire strategy to try again in 24 hours. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck! Canongirl Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 Before I go further, let me be sure I am following the instructions correctly. In reading the Rebidding Zone explanation, it is my understanding for example I select 4*, the zone (DT), then bid. If rejected, I enter the next zone (MTE), the rebid amount, etc. I don't enter all the zones at one time, then just change the price. Is this correct? Sorry VERY new at this, want to get it right. Thanks for your help, it is truly appreciated.
thereuare Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 No, that's not correct, which is probably why you got the duplicate bid message earlier.Let's take a step back, get you up to speed with re-bidding, and then start with a clean slate tomorrow 24 hours after your last rejected bid.Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Canongirl Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 Here are my findings:Zone #2 CPS - 5*Zone #3 Chelsea - 4*Zone #5 DT/Fin Dist - 5*Zone #6 ESB - 5*Zone #10 MSG - 4*Zone #11 MTE - 5*Zone #12 MTW - 4*Zone #15 Soho/Trib 4*Zone #16 TS/TD - 5*Here are my findings. Thanks for your patience! :-)
thereuare Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 You're on the right track as the information above is correct, but please provide this for every zone in the region... so do the same for Brooklyn, Hells Kitchen, Long Island City, Lower East Side, etc, etc.thanskforusing Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Canongirl Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 Zone #1 Brooklyn - 4*Zone #7 Hell's Kitchen - 4*Zone #8 LIC - 3 1/2*Zone #9 Lower East - 4*Zone #13 Morningside/Harlem - 3 1/2*Zone #17 Upper East - 5*Zone #18 Upper West - 4*The remainder.
thereuare Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Here are my findings:Zone #1 Brooklyn - 4*Zone #2 CPS - 5*Zone #3 Chelsea - 4*Zone #5 DT/Fin Dist - 5*Zone #6 ESB - 5*Zone #7 Hell's Kitchen - 4*Zone #8 LIC - 3 1/2*Zone #9 Lower East - 4*Zone #10 MSG - 4*Zone #11 MTE - 5*Zone #12 MTW - 4*Zone #13 Morningside/Harlem - 3 1/2*Zone #15 Soho/Trib 4*Zone #16 TS/TD - 5*Zone #17 Upper East - 5*Zone #18 Upper West - 4*I've combined and order the data from your two posts. So using the information you provided above, if you were to bid for a 4* hotel in the MSG and LIC zones, and were successful, do you see how the hotel would HAVE TO BE in the MSG zone (since the highest star rating currently offered in the LIC zone is 3.5*, which is below the minimum 4* threshold you have designated??)Does that make sense? If so, can you identify the other zone that you can add as a 're-bid' zone, which if successful you coudldn't possibly win since it only contains hotels lower than the 4* you have designated? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Canongirl Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 The other zone would be Morningside/Harlem as it only has 3 1/2 *.
thereuare Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 Correct... so just substitute these zones each time above it stays 're-bid zone1' or 're-bid zone2'... but also double check your re-bid zones just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked. ;)Any questions feel free to ask.Good luck and thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your bidding. Canongirl Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 Ok, I went thru the strategy you put in place using the re-bid zones (now that I understand :D ) and none of the bids were accepted. Any suggestions? Do the prices lower closer to your travel date or is that a longshot! I don't want to sleep in Central Park! :D Thanks so much for your help and your patience, so appreciated!
thereuare Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Currently HOTWIRE is showing a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $192/nite (just $2 more than you have already bid in this zone) with the following amenities:Pet Friendly Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ... best guess for this property would be the Doubletree Metropolitan, would this work for your needs? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Canongirl Posted April 15, 2013 Author Report Posted April 15, 2013 I didn't get your message in time, I went to book it and it is no longer available.
Canongirl Posted April 15, 2013 Author Report Posted April 15, 2013 I think I see it now at $221, is this likely the same hotel?
Romelle Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 If it has exactly the same amenities, it "probably" is the same hotel. Romelle
